    A Now Brain Dead DM....

    Hello Fellow BR lovers,
I am looking for a few ideas about a game I am hoping to run this
    weekend....I have no ideas
and would appreciate any help, because I am somewhat new to DMing.
Here is the characters:a human male priest character of Cuireacen(lvl 5)
named Regaltos of Talanie(Cuireacen is the faith of Talanie in this game,
not Haelyn), and a female dwarven fighter(lv 5) from Mur-Kilad named
    Greta(she fled from Gorgon's wrath)

Here is a bit of background history, They just finished fighting off a major
goblin invasion from Thurazor(within the last 5 weeks-game time), and were
sent on a mission to retrieve Thuriene Donall's heir(Siobhan was kidnapped
by a Priest of Eloele-yes, secretly by an order of Torias Griene-2nd in
    command of Talanie)
The thing is they arrived at the exchange point with the ransom(15GB) and
fought the Kidnapper Priest. During the battle, after most of his henchmen
had fallen, the evil priest cast "Animate Dead". This spell had an adverse
effect though, it raised the dead henchmen alright, but opened a portal to
the shadow world behind him(primarily because it was nearing" The eve of the
Dead"). The spell also summoned undead on the SW side of the portal. The
undead on the SW side grabbed at the evil priest and pulled him in, and
grabbed at the heir (Siobahn Redhie). Seeing this, Greta grabbed Siobahn
too, and gave a good tug(18/00 Str), while Regaltos hacked at the SW undead.
I gave in to the PC's actions, (because of the Dwarf's enourmous Str, and
both of their quick reactions) and let them save her. Then the portal closed.
And that's where we ended it(but I mentioned that Siobhan's leg was terribly
injured from being almost torn off)
Here is what I had planned before the previous gaming session: I wanted
Siobahn to get trapped in the SW too, and Regaltos and Greta would return to
the palace unsuccessful. But when they returned they would find Thuriene
Donalls dead, killed on a carriage ride in the countryside(again secretly
arranged by Torias Griene). Now with no heir, and no ruler Regaltos was sure
to step up to the throne.
Siobhan would return later to reclaim Talanie but that's another story.
Now what do you all think of what I should do with the current situation?I
would prefer that Regaltos step up to the throne somehow and we start
getting domain turns going(as do the players) but we like good stories,
rather than "it just happens"....and I am dry on ideas other than having
Siobahn die of internal bleeding (but that's too easy)..well?
    Thanks chummers,
    Terence

Let Siobhan take the throne, but keep in mind that Torias Griene isn't
going to give up so easily. You can turn around and have another
assassination attempt right away. One possibility, assuming the PCs
don't know Torias is bad news, is that he could offer to help heal
Siobhan and secretly cast or give her something to off her. If they
know he's up to no good, a priest minion could do so. Once she's gone,
    your PC can take over.

Well, you can always have the two marry (that is, if I understood
correctly that the saved heir was a female, though I don't know anything
about age - then again, age difference did not mean much in mediaval
    times).

As for adventures, maybe the original person that was going to marry her
gets angry and must be appeased. Maybe the evil priest had something
important with him and that has to be retrieved?

I always find it very difficult to come with idea's when I don't know
much about the campaign and PC's.

What if the evil priest managed to survive in the SW (he himself became
some kind of undead) and returns to Talinie for revenge (from both Torias
Griene and the PC´s as both parts are responsable for what has happened to
him - becoming undead)? (Maybe the return is in the exact moment of the
hier´s crowning - yet another maybe - maybe Torias Griene had an
assassination attempt planned for that same ocasion.)

Well Terence, this is what I came up with, let me know what you think.

The goal was to knock off Siobahn and her mother. They saved Siobahn (for
now) but you can still use the "murder" for the removal of mommy. That just
leaves Siobahn who must now either die, or become somehow "unfit" to rule
such that Regaltos can step up to regency right? You also mentioned she has
a horrid leg wound caused by the undead of the Shadow World.

That's what I would work the plot off. The SW is not the "standard" undead
factory from BR. It was never detailed fully so you can twist it to your own
ends. I would suggest that Siobahn's leg wound is infested with some Shadow
disease and she slowly turns undead herself. At first she assumes the throne
and tries to do allright. Problem is she doesn't sleep or eat much; and
when she eats, she wants meat. Rare meat, very rare. ;) These kind of
indirect but obvious clues should tip the players off and get the nobility
worried. At some point Siobahn starts going insane from a lack of sleep (her
humanity slipping...) and she "retires" for rest into the countryside
leaving Regaltos to rule in her place.

Give Regaltos say one Domain Turn (three actions) of rulership as a true
regent (one who rules in the name of another) and then have Siobahn come
back ready to rule, and fully undead. :) This can set your game up for a
brief civil war between Siobahn and Regaltos and the supporters of both.
Then Siobahn can be "defeated" in a climatic battle, and Regaltos can try to
    fully assume the throne.

Of course, the other regents in the area would love a situation like this
and should get into the politics.

It's a rough idea that would need some smoothing, but it's better than a
    freebie!

    Craig
