    Birthright.net very soon now :)

Our central webpage is very near a reality now and it is about time we
start getting a bit more concrete, not to mention we need some
volounteers. I remember CSS was mentioned (I never really grasped
exactly what it is but I'll learn..) and several good ideas and designs
have already been mentioned. Now we need someone to actually volounteer
to make the first draft (and if it is good it will be the permanent
solution) of the actual webpage with some proper content.
I will at least now in the starting process take on the position of
coordinator of the website, if the list agrees I will remain in this
    position.
In the very beginning I think the most important part is to actually get

something on the site, and fast...That means less voting on the list and

long discussions on the list. I beleive that at this time, the first one

to make a useful design for the website will get his submission posted !

That is not because I do not like democratic ways or something, but
rather since we have nothing yet, ANY website is a great improvement !
We also need some (somewhere around the number 5 IMHO) main webmasters.
Someone who will actually do the HTML coding and preparing everything
submitted for posting. Adam Theo I seem to recall you volounteered here
too, if you still want be in please write me a message....

I'll volunteer to help out with the coding of the page. I can give examples
of my work and a small resume of company pages I've done should it be
    needed.

actually, i like the idea of moving the Netbook to become this
'front page' of Birthright.NET . then if we do that, we can turn the
Netbook into the 'Hub' of this project. there would be about a dozen
or more 'sub sections' of the Netbook, which different people would
maintain. i for one would like to do the Links section of
Birthright.NEt/Netbook. but other sections could be the Online City
Project, Rules Changes/Additions, Plot/Story Lines, etc.
see what i mean? so we just turn the Netbook into this hub. Darkstar
can do some changes if he has the time, if not, i would like to help.

Sounds good. I think it would be worth doing a simple detection script on
the first page, and detecting the browser version. That way we can direct
each user to a different first page depending on the capabilities of their
browser. Some of the newer browsers (IE5 & NN4.5+) have some very nice
coding which makes it quite easy to make the page a bit more fancy (eg.
CSS), without consuming too much bandwidth. It also has the benefit that the
page will look exactly how it is supposed to look in each browser. even
though NN & IE both claim to support the same HTML standards, in practice I
have found it is a right royal pain in the *&%# to get a page to look the
same in both when it has anything remotely out of the ordinary on it. And
with the spread of browsers being about 50-50 between IE & NN these days,
you simply cannot afford to code for only one of them or you isolate too
many readers - something that should be avoided at all costs. But none of
this is urgent, and would be something that could be done in the future,
once a first page is up.

I seem to also recall that for copyright reason's, we also need to add a TSR
logo and link to the front page?!?

I'd like to see a separate section for "world info", for lack of a better

up with a better name), containing the OCP, Aduria project, and all other

the process of writing a player's secrets book of XXX).

    Here is my reply:
well, i don't think we really need a detection script and different
pages for each browser. i have found that it is usually best to stay
away from all those 'top of the line' technologies that are
incorporated into the browsers, since there are almost always better
ways to do the same effect. i think a properly designed page can
    handle both IE & NV.
i like your idea, and think we can incorporate both of ours into it.
    how is this:
Welcome Page: easy to load, etc. link to the home page, plus all
    that legal disclaimer and stuff.
Home Page: Links to the following, which are maintained separately:
Links: Links to all sorts of BR stuff. (Me)
Spells: Realm, Conventional, Battle, Priest & Wizard. (Ian?)
Actions: Doamin, Character, Free, Realm. (Ian?)
    Magical Items: Self Explanitory. (Anyone?)
Fiction: stories, campaign 'campfire stories', etc. (anyone?)

the Netbook could be 'converted' into this project. darkstar could
keep the sections he wanted to webmaster over on the same space (like
the blood abilities or domain actions, etc, whatever.).

That seems like a good idea to me. I just don't seem to have the time to
update my page anymore, and there is a lot of good information I have to
add. I'd like to continue maintaining the Adurian expansion as well as
    the Birthright Fiction page.
Perhaps for the start, you could just copy the netbook over to the new
site, and I'll put a link from the current site. You can download
everything that's in the Netbook at the following location. Give me a
yell when it's up and I'll create a page to forward people who go to the
    old site.

I beleive the idea is good, but as Adam Theo said, this definately can wait
until we got an active webpage which people use.

We don't actually HAVE to, but they would like it very much..and I had
assumed we did, I forgot to mention it, but since I beleive noone is

Of course I can register a few boards at www.insidetheweb.com when we
get the page up.....though I am a bit afraid of spreading the traffic
around, since this list TSR is monitoring and if we have several Internet
message boards with good discussions finding the right discussion might be
difficult, as well as the right place....

Yes they can and (when I think about it) should be kept at a seperate
section. But I still want the warning page for those of the PS's that are
aimed at the DM not the player. My own Five Peaks PS is definiately not
    something the players should read...

See above, but as a comment the test page that will be visible as soon as
the registration comes trhough will has already a link to a mesage board
that is supposed to be used for discussing the site if not BR itself....
This part is an answer to Adam Theo too... My original design was made from
the assumption that Darkstar moves all the data (or at least creates a
mirror) at the Birthright.net site. If he or someone else does the actual
updates depends on what he wants. The idea the way I see it is that the
main page (i.e. the first index.html) with the disclaimers and links to the
different sections (eks. DM/PC resources, World accesories, reviews etc.)
isn't changed that much. While the real work is done by the section
webmasters (i.e. you maintain the links and thus is responsible for the
links section etc.). The only exception is if we follow the Netbooks
example (which I find to be a nice design) and give information on what's
new since last update, that information would of course have to be changed
    regularily then.
Where we actually place things physicly is a debate which I beleive is a
matter for the "council" when this is formed. The webspace I got is soon
rather fast and bannerfree (and free) while now it is only 10MB... Which is
lots of text but little pictures. But again this is way off-topic and isn't
really a matter for the list I think.

Yeah, I agree with you on that. Let's keep our discussions here. But there could
be a board for comments on the submitted stuff and on the webpage.

    Yeah

We should defenitly include this section. Perhaps to legalize the maps we could
put the TSR logo in the corner as a watermark. I'm not sure how to do this but
I'm sure it could be done.

To those who are setting up birthright.net...

Is it possible to incorporate some kind of search engine on the site or
something? One that searches all html pages on the site for your
    keywords. That'd be so neat...
