    New to the list!

    Hi,
I'm new to the list and just recenlty got my copy of birthright...
well I have tons of questions.
the first one (of many) is:
Paladins: Do they get all of there abilities(lay on hands, inmunity to disease,
etc..) even if the are not Lawful Good?
what aligments must they be for each deity?

First of all let me welcome you to the list. The more the merrier.
So let's get down to the questions at hand:
A paladin can not be anything but Lawful Good, except Paladins of
Cuiriaecen(sp?) who are Chaotic Good and nothing else. And yes they
all get those abilities unless otherwise is stated under the entry for
their god in the religion part.

    > what aligments must they be for each deity?

As mentioned above all are Lawful Good except Cuiriaecen(sp?) who have
Chaotic Good paladins. Also do note that not all gods have paladins
(only Avani, Haelyn, Cuiriaecen(sp?, Nesirie) nor can paladins come
from any human race (only anuirean, brecht and khinasi, although this
part isn't even followed by TSR themselves in official products).

you say that paladins can only be LG,. exept for those of Cuiriaecen, but in
the Ruins of the Empire there is a LN paladin (her name is Kalilah bunt Daouda,
a Khinasi Paladin of Avani), how come?

Printing error? That is the only explanation I can offer. But then
again they also say that no Vos character can be paladin and lo and
behold in Ruins of the Empire there is one who's called the son of the
raven. SO I guess that there can always be exceptions to the rule. :-)

I allow paladins of Avani to be LG or LN because of that entry (and because it
makes sense to me). Then again, I have NG paladins of Ruornil, "anti-paladins"
of Kreisha and Belenik who are LE & CE respectively and allow rangers, thieves
and bards to become sort of quasi-paladins of Erik, Sera and Laerme, so I
suppose my house rules aren't exactly the shining example of the standard core
    rules.... :-)

a Paladin must be allowed by the God (not all Gods have Paladins) those that
do have Paladins have there abilities listed under the God.
For example Cuiracain has Paladins that don't get most of those abilities
    and are Chaotic Good.

Hmmm. Well, whatever works for you. In my campaign only about 1/3 of the PCs began
as blooded, but I have a decidedly adventure oriented campaign (and a couple players
liked the idea of an XP bonus for not being blooded) so what works for me might not
    work for you.

It really depends on how you are going to run your games. Are you going to focus on
domain actions or adventures or some combo? Once you decide that you will probably
    have your answer to your

As for disadvantages of blooded PCs the only one I can really come up with is the
Wild West sort of thing. That is, other blooded individuals out there (some of whom
might be quite powerful) just might come a'gunnin' for ya' in order to commit
bloodtheft and steal your reputation. Blooded folks tend to be in the spotlight
whether they like it or not. Personally, I don't think that outweighs their
advantages, but I'm sure plenty of real world celebrities would argue that point with
    me.

As for who can be blooded, just about anyone who walks or crawls, plus a few that
swim, slither or fly.... If you can justify it (and there are some pretty weird
justifications in the published materials--read the Chimerae, the Magian, the Raven
or the Boar, for example) then I saw go with it, baby. It's all good.

    Hope this helps!

I tend to let the PC's decide if they want to be blooded or not. I try
not to limit the characters. If everyone chooses to take Blood Abilities,
they are going to have different Blood Strengths and are going to be from
different derivations. Unfortunately, this can make for a very strong party
and I have to ensure multiple"checks and balances" are in place. Many
characters in BR are not Regents and still posses some blood powers. These
powers are often tainted at best. Hence the reason they are not Regents.

I view being blooded as a disadvantage somewhat. When a character is
blooded he/she is a wanted man/woman. Many an Anshweigh or Regent would like
to do some blood theft. This can be very unsettling when it's the Gorgon who
    wants to steal your bloodline.

    On being Blooded:

In my campaigns I have had all but one player blooded...that player loves
his pc regardless fo abilities so he is happy wihtout the special abilities.
I however also would be happy running unblooded pcs' as well. Any mix can
work. My current campaign I am about to begin will have 2 pc's both blooded
and will lead them to Regenthood over a small track of land On Thaele, as a
Housecarl... and then if they manage to manuever well enough, fight of the
elements and such, maybe even become a HighKing of Thaele. I know who will
be the regent already if he doesn't die and who will be his right hand
simply because of the nature of the players themselves.
