Well, as much as the DM wants. The PBEM's I played in, did not take a
particular goal into mind, except having fun and seeing a world coming
to life. That means that there probably an unlimited amount of turns
that could be done. Until finally all the DM's quit or that so many
players stop that the game dies.

Again, that depends on what the goals of the game are. In most PBEM's I
have seen, the goals was just to let the players play all the regents
and then see where it all goes. Meaning that there is no real winner.
Surviving might be victory for some, other might attain victory if they
get destroyed after having caused as much havoc as possible. Of coarse,
I have heard of PBEM's in which the goal was to obtain the Iron Throne
and then the first to reach that would be the winner.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean but most games usually end on the first turn
or in the first ten. I've not been in any game where a side wins. They
usually go on like a regular campaign, with one victory or loss leading into
another story.

Depends. The biggest and greatest PBEMs I've seen lasted for about 30
turns. The smallest died before they even began :)

Nobody wins per se. Some may achieve great power. It depends on the
game.

Here is my reply:
well, my BR game that i DM has now gone into Turn 39 with a small
set of players. they have played the same regents (one a guilder to
the growing Avanese 'Empire', the other the Queen of Tuarhievel). Turn
39 means just a couple of seasons shy of 10 years, so it has gone on a
long time. it is getting to the point where things are on the
threshhold of settling down, with four major powers of Anuire: Gorgon,
Elves, Avanil, Mieres. so it looks like in about 2 years (game time, 8
or so more turns), the land will be more closely set along those
lines. then i have something planned, but i will talk about that when
i have it done :) after the thing i do happens in about a couple of
years, the game can continue on for another 10 years, i think.
on a side note, what are the longest running games out there? both
actual turns played, and number of years in the future (in the case of
fastforwarding a few years or decades, etc.
