    Birthright.net: Main Page

The page that appears when you type www.birthright.net into your
computer is going to make a big difference in how WotC and new players
will view our efforts. With the goal of making that main page the best
possible, I suggested doing a contest type thing in which we vote on a
bunch then the winners of that bunch can improve their sites for the
finals. Yet before we can do anything with a main page, we need to know
what should be on it. If people would submit their ideas to the list
then I will copy them all down for later review.

Don't assume someone else will comment for you. I want to see over 200
    lists of ideas.

Here's a thought... Use a "stone" wall paper similar to those on the domain
sorcebooks (I'm thinking of Roesone here) for the homepage. The BR logo
accross the top; map of Cerilia below with links to the various areas on the
map (ie. point at the Rjurik Highlands and click-there you are. Maybe use
the cover art from the BR box set and various campaign expansions for the
    various pages.

Here is a nice page that the Greyhawkers put together.

    http://members.xoom.com/cogh/

It is rather fancy, but the layout is nice, and they have some great ideas and
'groups/organizations' as well. I suggest that we all take a look at it and see
if we might do something similar.

Well I've been away all weekend and upon returning tonight I am thouroughly
impressed with the number of and variety posts there have been. I think there is
nothing wrong with lurking but the more messages you comment on the better this list
will be. And now on to the proper topic:

I like the Grewhawk page. I agree that it is a bit fancy but it is impressive. One
thing I noticed that I have not seen in full among the Birthright pages is a product
review. This shows an intrest not only in the world itself but an intrest in what
TSR puts out. They seem to have a lot of Netbook type stuff and here's my idea,
althought it may be a lot of work. We could incorperate the Netbook and Adytum into
the main page as one. Just an idea. I would be really interested in doing a
product review thing on the BR books I have (most of em). My idea would be to have
three people review each product in a paragraph or two and give something like a 1-5
rating (or we could do Commoner, Tained, Minor, Major, Great for a BR flavor).

I like this idea, a clever way to rate BR products. Problem is though, all
the BR material has already been out for at least 2 1/2 years with nothing
new forthcoming. Birthright players are already familiar with all the
published materials, and to a newcomer I would flat out recommend for him to
purchase everything he could get his hands on because there's such a scarcity
of published campaign information and it's all useful, IMO. How about rating
material contributed to the web site by the Birthright net community for
usefulness and quality? Although that could potentially lead to bruised
feelings. To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@lists.imagiconline.com

I love the idea of Commoner, Tainted.....etc.

Well true enough but I beleive we should anyway, after all as you've said
with a static number of products and unfortunately nothing new comming out
in the near future I'm afraid (even though I am hoping) making reviews of
all products wont take that long time....

Actually I beleive if we get 3 or at least 2 persons to write two seperate
reviews it can't be that bad....I'd loved to get my work reviewed even if
that means getting somehing (or all) slaughtered...
I have sort of envisioned that even our links are "rated", that is a 2-3
line description of the site in question, and we all know that such a
resyme wouldn't be totally neutral and as such would be a review...

I have done a product review, though it is incomplete. All the products
are there but I have only reviewed a few.

    Here is my reply:
if anyone knows how to work with CGI Perl, then there is an
excellent script (a bit complicated, though), called Gossamer Threads
Links. it is free for non profit use, and has everything like
automatic link submission (like Infoseek & other search engines),
search capabilities, rating, what's new, full reviews of links, etc.
    it is excellent.

actually, if no one else wants to, i'd like to maintain the main and
links sections of the birthright.net site...

Sounds good to me. In fact, we should probably start figuring out right now
who's going to be in charge of what regarding Birthright.net. Should each
different section of the site be overseen by a different administrator, with
one person in charge of the overall site? Or should we have like a three man
council to make decisions? We already have someone who volunteered to
organize submitted ideas for the main page so we can vote on what we like the
best. I think what we really need at this point is someone to be in charge
of the whole Birthright.net planning project, to get the site up and running,
decide how the site should appear and be organized (either through a vote or
some other less democratic method), assign responsibility to volunteers to
oversee various sections of the site and keep them updated and running
smoothly, and act as a liaison between those working on the project. And
maybe get with TSR on the possibility of their involvement.
This is kind of a big job for one person, but like I said, maybe it could be
split up between two or three people. Any volunteers, or any other ideas on
how we should go about this?To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@lists.imagiconline.com
