    Call for nominations

    Greetings,

I feel like a sick pig for having to start this, but here goes. (heck I
suppose this is what Anuirean politics must be like???)

As I feel that Jim Cooper is not an acceptable candidate for list
administrator, I am now asking for those of us who care to nominate someone
for the job in his stead. It's hard to have much of a vote if we only have
    one candidate.

To get the ball rolling, I'll nominate two people:

    1. Kenneth Gauck: (I don't have his email offhand). His posts are
knowledgeable and thorough. Sometimes he gets a bit too lost in the details
of medieval life; but even that can be used as setting and atmosphere so I
    really have never minded.

    2. Adam Theo: (adamtheo@Theoretic.com). Again, a high quality poster and a
regular contributor. I look forward to his messages in my box.

Now then, I sure am not the Supreme Being On Birthright, so please people:
nominate someone if you think they are worth it. Either that or second my
nominations. If Jim gets control of the list, I have to bugger out and leave
the list. I just cant support that kind of mentality be remaining present.

I also move that the nomination process be closed on next Tuesday. This will
give any of us over here in the USA a chance to have the holiday weekend and
not fear missing some big event. On Tuesday any nomination that has *NOT*
been accepted will be dropped. Those who have accepted can then be listed
(alongside of Jim) and put up for a vote. We should probably get this over
with by Friday of next week so the list can settle and get on with more
    relevant and fun things.

Also, I'm going to start tracking votes and nominations by keeping those
messages that come in from this point onward. Can someone else back me up on
this?? It would be nice to have a few of us count the beans and then see if
    we agree on it all.

From here until Tuesday, I will only count nominations; which means I have
three: Jim, Kenneth, and Adam. I will assume that Jim has accepted his
nomination ;), Kenneth and Adam, can you please respond (to the list) with a
yea or nea on weather you would take on the duty? I'll keep the list as
tight and right as I can so long as people reply. That way on Tuesday we can
see if anyone besides Jim wants the job.

Btw Jim: Are you Jim or Darren???? The headers and your sig. disagree, so I
have chosen the headers to be more accurate for now...

    Craig

P.S. Another thing to bear in mind. If nobody responds to this, I'll assume
I am the only one interested in fighting Jim's control of the list. In that
event I'll back off this thread and bow out without a whimper. I acknowledge
that I have no power to back up what I have started in this message.

    I'll second that nomination.

fighting tooth and nail with his email clients in a hitherto vain attempt

PS: Speaking of posting problems and list administrators, it seems to me
that the list only accepts mail from addresses that are on it, but not
quite (as in subscriber@anyhost.subscriber-domain, maybe?). Does anyone
know the exact logic the server uses?

    Here is my reply:
well, i'll offer myself as nominee. i'll make a big speach if
everyone clamours for it, but right now i'm driving down to TCBY. i
just saw a commercial for them on TV, and am craving for a soda & ice
    cream float. *sigh* so gullible.
i am comfortable with the technical aspects. it's what i spend 70
hours a week of my life on, server & net stuff (i run a high quality
paid web hosting company, http://www.theoretic.com, so i know that
    stuff)
i won't delete anyone from the list, unless they are purposfully
starting flame wars or sending spam. i have little tolerance for the
last. posts looking for players for games or anything else BR i *do
not* consider spam. those kind of posts i like.
um, what else major issues are there? hm, nothing i can think of.
okay, i'm off to ice cream heaven.

I trust the desicions of the other people who who want to nominate and vote on
certain people so I'm not going to place any specific vote. I think the biggest
thing should be that the administrator should want the position. I agree with
the position that the adminstrator shouldn't really be seen as that often.
Everyone here is fairly respecting and almost all of the off-topic threads have
ended once two or three people expressed displeasure with the off-topic nature.
After reading those rules for the list, I'd like to say that removal should be a
very extreme action. If there is a thread that is way off-topic, previous
occurances of that show that the moderator should have to only clear his throat
    to end it.

A little note about birthright.net: It might be a good idea for someone to
contact WotC and ask them about the legality of doing so. I don't know what
could be wrong with that but let's not spend the $70 then find that WotC thinks
    it is illegal.

    Dear Blooded-Ones,
No again to any on some power-trip. You can't exclude some just because
they don't do something specifically to your liking. I haven't been on here
long enough to know who I should nominate, but, let's face it, anyone who
thinks they are never wrong, are wrong for saying that and prove it with
such a superfluous statement. What a callous disregard for people's
feelings. That's all this hobby needs-another shot in the heart.
    Sincerely,

    Hello,
I,m Andrew, and a newbie to the list. So I have just sorta lurked around for
a while and found some political mechanations to rival Anuire... I have also
recieved 2 to 4 copies of posts (some are original posts NOT responses!). I
am, however, impressed with the quality of those posts and plan to stay; on
    condition...

I second his nominations and would move to nominate Craig Dalrymple. For
    caring about us lurkers...sorry, Jim.

    Heh. Isn't it though? :)

Now, I don't see why you should. It shows you care enough about what
happens to this list to do something about it. I applaud you. In fact,
since you are in such strong disagreement for my 'nomination', just your
one voice is enough for me to reconsider my nomination.

Why don't you volunteer yourself? Everyone else most likely have as
much free time as you do, and about as much knowledge of running a list,
so you are just as capable as anyone else.

My name is actually Darren. I usually sign the bottom of every message
with that, or a pompous title (which I assume everyone associates with
    me).

    Cheers,
    Darren

That's probably a good idea. However, any potential problem could probably
be solved with a slight alteration of the domain name. Once I get enough
pledges to actually get the domain name, I will check into that with WotC.To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@lists.imagiconline.com
