Birthright Books
I am not playing BR right now, as one of the players has
an aversion to AD&D from a bad incident with WHFRPG. They
hate this other game with a vengeance, however they have
not played AD&D and are unwilling to do so because of the
bad experience with the other game.
Now I would like to know what people consider to be the
best Birthright novel, which could entice this player to
consider playing Birthright. Is there one that has decent
intrigue, and good adventure ?
I must admit that I have never read a RPG inspired novel
that I know of.
TIA
Dom

(not sure about the author)
excellent piece of work, which really gets the blood flowing in
those viens..

My personal favorite BR book is Greatheart. It gives a good flavor for BR
elves, IMO, and I liked the Shadow World snippets. It is not, however, a
"fight the monsters, save the damsel, grab the treasure" novel. I also
enjoyed the Iron Throne and the Spider's Test. The Spider's Test is
significantly shorter than the Iron Throne and, as a result, an easier
read. These novels are both written from a realm-forging (Spider's Test)
or realm-saving (the Iron Throne) standpoint.
The Hag's Contract, IMO, was just OK, and I thought some of the material in
War was very inappropriate for anyone under the age of 18. The same could
be said, to a lesser extent, about the Iron Throne. I don't want to read
about sex in a novel based on a TSR game world.
This is all just IMO, of course. I'm sure other people have much different
ideas about the best BR novels. I'm a big fan of the Sidhelien, so I was
pre-disposed toward liking Greatheart.
Regards
Craig

The best AD&D inspired novels?
THe Deeds of Paksenarrion (written by a now established author Elizabeth
Moon and not tied to AD&D or a gamewrold specifically nor published by TSR
but the elements are ones taken froma Role-playing game that Leizabeth Moon
was involved in) this book tells the story of one Paksenarrion
Dorthoansdottir from dauther of a sheepherder-mercenary-freewarrior-paladin
and it is an utterly brilliant read for character development.

I would have to go with the story of Michael Roele in the book called
the Iron Throne. This sets the stage for Birthright Anuirean campaigns.
The Hags Domain is good for brecht campaigns and the Spiders Test
(Endier) are both good too, but go with the Iron Throne. Greatheart is
about elves and is okay. War the follow up to the Iron Throne is okay
also. But go with the Iron Throne. I need to get a new copy as I read
mine to the binding went off and every time I read it I find something
new.

I must say I did like all Birthright novels I did read. I would suggest you
to make him read "The Iron Throne" or "The Spider's Test".

They refuse to play AD&D, because they don't like Warhammer Fantasy
Roleplay? Where's the logic in that? Why, that's like refusing
to eat oranges, because you don't like bananas...
