This list`s administrator
Cheers everybody!
Well, I was asked by Rob Miracle a couple of days ago to be this list's
admin, but I thought I should do this all proper like and ask you guys
what you want (I've already got you guys eatin' outta the palm of my
hand anyways, so what the hell?!? :D Mwuhahahaaa!).
(Man, I've really got it commin' to me, don't I? Heh. Well, you only
live once, I say.)
Okay, seriously ...
Well, how about it? Do you think we need one or not? If so, who has
volunteered? I got from Rob's post that no one else volunteered (why am
I not surprised?), so what's up with everybody?
I gotta forewarn all you girlie men - I'm looking to be one evil Mailing
List Nazi - so don't say I didn't tell you so. One breach of mailing
list etiquette, and I'll be warming up my trusty Wand o' Disintegration.
I'll especially have my sights trained on people who contribute nada to
this list - just as soon as I figure out how to de-subscribe people,
that is. I know its possible, so ... count on it.
And trust me - my good ol' wand has plenty of charges left ...
I've had three votes for yea so far, and none for nay, (well, four
actually, but my silly apprentice actually voted twice! Morg,
Morg, Morg ... well, I can't blame him for his enthusiastic loyalty,
that's for sure ...) :D
That means you'd better vote, especially for nay-sayers (since your side
is already down 3), because an abstaining vote is a 'yes' vote in my
books. And then you'll have no one to blame but yourself afterwards,
either. So think real hard. Unless everybody says we don't need one,
then we'll all have a new admin very soon - ME!
Somebody's got to take charge around here - and if I'm what it takes to
keep this BR list going strong, then *tough*, we can all suffer through
it. I certainly don't want to go through another pointless alignment
debate ...
Don't worry about hurting my feelings either - 'cause I don't have
any!!!! HAH! :D (Just in case any of you haven't figured that out
yet ...) ;D
Cheers,
The (soon to be) Supreme Grand Vizier

OK, I've been the admin for all of the brocp-related lists for the last year
or so, so here's my opinion.
I don't think that this list needs a *moderator*, except for the once or
twice a year that something gets way out of hand (like a little while ago).
But, having said that, this list does need an *administrator*. Rob can't
(and shouldn't have to) handle all of the mundane tasks required to keep the
list going. For example, when mailing boxes fill up and all subsequent posts
to XYZ@ABC.COM bounce back to the list. This just clogs the system, but if
that address doesn't exist (like some idiot spammer joins the list - it has
happened a few times this past year, but luckily Rob has managed to head
them all off before anything happened), then addresses have to be
unsubscribed, something only the administrator (or the person whose address
it is, can do). The mailing list FAQ (that you receive automatically when
you join) needs to be maintained and kept up to date, though this doesn't
take a huge effort once it has been set up. The list goes on, but you can
see what I mean.

heh, heh :-)
Cheers all,
Simon

>O.k., why would you wanna go and do that? I hardly ever have any
suggestions to the BirthRight crowd, but I sure as hell have been enjoying
reading the posts. It gives me new ad+d material to read every day. Just
because I don't post everyday doesn't mean I'm not interested, just that
usually I cannot add constructively to the process...and, if being quiet is
grounds for dismissal, consider me out, since I no longer run a BirthRight
game anyways, so, my vote is no, we don't need a mod, especially one who's
willing to de-subscribe people because they don't post enough to suit the
mod's tastes. Rpg'ing (and BirthRight in particular) don't need this kind
of steward-ship, so to speak. We need to be worried about drawing people
into the fold, not kicking them out.
Thank you all for your time,
Patrick S. Whitson
