Birthright revival

I'd like to post a few comments regarding the BR revival project that has
recently been discussed. The central web site idea is a really great idea,
and I sincerely hope that those of you who have volunteered, at least
tentatively, to make that idea into a reality are able to go forward with the
project. I have no experience with web page design or management, so I
cannot help out putting it together, but I would very much appreciate the
efforts of anyone who does help put the project together. Such a central web
site would obviously be of immense value to Birthright DMs and players,
regardless of whether or not it results in WotC bringing back the Birthright
line.
I am pretty much a newbie to Birthright, I just started DMing a campaign
around the beginning of this year. I would love to contribute stuff online
to the various sites, but right now I barely have enough time to keep my own
campaign afloat, and haven't really built up enough worthy material yet. But
when things slow down and I do get time to organize my notes, I plan on
contributing as much as I can. The point of all this is directed to the
various project administrators who oversee sites such as the online city
project. Please don't get too discouraged at the lack of current
contributions. There may be many others like me, who are just waiting for
the time and enough material to start contributing regularly. And with a
central site that can be easily found and accessed, we may attract other
players to Birthright who may in turn become contributors themselves sometime
down the road. At least such a site would show other AD&D players that
Birthright is not a dead system.
Regarding the mass mailing idea that Craig had. The idea has merit, but I
believe it is a waste of time until we actually have the central online
project up and running to show that there is real broad-based support for the
system (and that we are busy writing material that they could be selling to
us). You can count on a letter from me after we achieve that first. In my
opinion, though, we don't really need WotC's involvement any longer. I
believe that as a group, we could periodically review and vote on contributed
material to be made official, in our eyes anyway, Birthright
history/background/adventure modules.

Well I've found that you get more help for something that's real and there than
for just an idea floating around. If we can secure the domain name and server I
think the support will really show up. I forget who nominated themselves for
taking care of the domain name (at least technically, if not finacially) but
could we hear where things are with that?

At this years GenCon in Milwaulkee, Wotc (TSR) is having a seminar on which
expansion worlds to bring back, A Friend and I are going there to give our
support to bring back Birthright, If anyone else is going sign up for it ,
it's on sunday august 8, 10 am. We need all the support we can get.

I would be willing to start a riot(just kidding)...
But I would show up on one condition.....If I could get a ride there with
any Canadians or Minnasotans on this list...(any offers?)
My vehicle is out of comission forever (like some gaming world we know)
The cost of airplane tickets there is phenominal, as is any other method
like Greyhound.

One or more persons have to collect or gather 70$ then send a little mail
to me so that I can give all the pertinent information so that the
registration (which can be done online within about half an hour) can be
done and the money transfered. Then I will get my friends to set up our
account and webpage... Me and hopefully others will start submitting
information and possibly moving information there. And the thing is
up...But again as long as the money comes everything else can be arranged.

If only 14 people chip in $5 then we have the money needed to get started.
How about if we try this? Anyone who is willing to chip in the five bucks
send me a private e-mail stating your willingness to do so. As soon as I get
13 responses I will reply to those people with my snail mail address, so they
can each send me a check for $5. I will then forward the money to "Cobos" so
he can secure the domain name. Or, since I am relatively new to the list and
as yet probably unknown, the money could be physically collected by someone
else if the contributers would feel more comfortable with that. Doesn't
matter to me, I'd just like to get this project rolling. So if you are
willing to contribute, please let me know so we can take the first step.

PS And if I do end up being the one collecting the funds, please, no checks
that can also be used as a basketball- lol!

I used to buy CDs from a guy in Japan (I live in the US). He had his
customers send him International Postal Money Orders (IPMO). They can be
purchased at major US Post Offices, are in US dollars, and can apparently
be exchanged fairly readily in countries that have developed economies. An
IPMO costs less than $1, IIRC. Not sure how you exchange it in the foreign
country, however. Anyone familiar with this process?

I am unsure exactly what the goal of this project is. Are you trying to
buy the "birthright" domain name and use it as the major web site for all
BR-related information?

I have no problem with that. If I do get the funds sent to me, I will
contact you for instructions on what to do.

That's exactly what I'm talking about. Apparently Sindre has the means to
get the site hosted, all we need is to come up with the money to get the
domain name.
