    Your campaigns

Well, to generate some on-topic discussion, how about people describing
their experiences in their BR campaigns. It doesn't matter if they are PnP
or PBEM campaigns, whether you were a player or a DM, tell us about it from
    your point of view...

To begin, here are some events from my PnP campaign. It is in Anuire,
Northern Marches. The two PCs were Tuarhievel and Dhoesone. Well, the
Tuarhievel player is somewhat of an oddity in that in "normal" AD&D
campaigns he plays good, brave heroes. In BR campaigns however, he plays
craven lowlives who would walk over everyone to get a profit :) So, he
looked at the map, and naturally picked Cariele as his next invasion target.
Not being a fool (or maybe the opposite), he contacted the guilder Mheallie
Bireon first, asking her help in the conquest of Cariele, promising her the
rulership of one of the provinces. She agreed. But when the invasion came,
the attacking Tuarhievel forces found themselves being slaughtered by a
horde of mercenaries hired by the her guild. A couple of months later,
Mheallie Bireon became the regent of all Cariele by "less violent means"
(meaning, the violence was restricted to only one person, namely Entier
    Gladanil).
Well, the Dhoesone player didn't like seeing his friend pounded. So he
started some nefarious plotting against the new ruler of Cariele. His plan
was actually quite good. He kidnapped Mheallie Bireon, charmed her with the
help of a mage friend, and had her sign a document relinquishing all her
possessions to him. Then he had a not-so-scrupulous priest perform an
investiture giving him everything. But here he made a mistake. Instead of
quietly doing away with Bireon, he decided to me more creative, and released
her at the border of Gorgon's Crown, hoping (rightly) that she'd end up in
Gorgy's hands. Well, she did end up there alright, but Gorgy, always eager
to sow some discord, decided to send her gift-wrapped to the gates of the
Mhor's capital (with a note attached explaining Dhoesone's involvement).
Needless to say, the Mhor (and other rulers) weren't pleased, and Dhoesone
found himself being invaded by the combined armies of four realms,
outmatching his own army by 10 to 1. When the dust settled, Mheallie Bireon
took over the whole thing and Dhoesone was absorbed into Cariele. So now the
Tuarhievel player, instead of having only one friendly border, had no
    friendly borders at all.

So, the moral of the story is, check on who you are dealing with, and don't
let creativity interfere with good sense.

Well, how about PBEMs? There are no doubt many stories you can share from
those. The greatest of which would probably be the legendary Darkstar's
PBEM. How many people here were in that one? Come on, share with us. Or
maybe Darkstar himself could tell us a few secrets? :)

    Your campaigns

Well I mentioned what was recently happening in my campaign in another thread
which referred to dragons in Cerilia.

    I don't have time for a complete write up. Here's a synopsis:

    1) High King scenario (Queen in this case) in the country of Cwmb Bheinn
    2) One PC Queen, 2 PC Wizard Regents, one PC Guild Regent, then other two are
scion (body guard captain) and commoner (bard herald).
    3) They have attacked and defeated the Lamia, and continued with a
declaration of war on the Orogs of the Iron Hand tribes. The Lamia was
easily beaten, but the Orogs war priests are capable of terrible carnage.
    4) The Raven is a very serious concern. He is biding his time, and
rebuilding from the losses the Dragon of Vstaive Peak (Vore Lekiniskiy, Old
Master Fire Worm), but the recent success of Cwmb Bheinn has attracted his
attention. He may be preparing to Dispel Wards and raise wards against Cwmb
Bhein, possibly paralysing them before an impending attack. The PCs are
spread thin in terms of money and RP and could do little to conteract this,
if only the Raven realised how weakened the elves really are...
    5) Vore has established a very strong hold on the sources of Van Garreg,
hold 5 out of 9 possible and sending a Demonette guardian to protect his
interests since he cannot personally. The elves are frightened and worried.
They are considering allowing the dragon to keep his new gains--they weren't
    using it anyway. [GM: ehhehehehehehehhee]
    6) Meanwhile, remaining underground "freedom fighters" from the conquered
portions of the former Lamia's domain may be hiring assassins. 7 such human
assassins, posing as a peaceful diplomatic mission attacked with iron-shod
staves and killed nearly the entire bodyguard, the Queen, the captain of the
bodyguard, and put down a PC wizard before a lone PC managed to trick them
into believe elven Gheallie Sidhe cavalry was on the way. The Queen was
revived (she has Invulnerability -- her only blood ability, the lucky bastard
:-) along with 4 of her 24-man heavy infantry bodyguard and the wizard who
was only knocked unconcious. The PCs were pretty humbled because they
realized their own arrogance toward the conquered people allowed them to be
    so easily suckered in.

[GM: Hey, they made a bad mistake and I only killed one PC. They count
themselves lucky for being so stupid and yet still mostly surviving.]

Interestingly, the Queen's miraculous "resurrection" has inspired an almost
fanatical belief that the forest rejuvenated her!

    Later!

On the request for stories from other Birthright games:
I'm in no email game, yet
(Those wanting to change that can write Willela@aol.com).
I am playing in a postal game, where we disposed of an emerging awnshegh
in Wilder's Gorge (with my PC getting killed in the process). We were
expecting Regency as a reward, but the DM got hold of Giantdowns and we were
    "encouraged" to head North.
On the way, we took out some pirates, but were less successful against a
scream of harpy. (This was to just be a random encounter, but the DM liked
it and so will be "encouraging" us to come back for a rematch.)
In Dhoesone, we discovered that that many of the goblin troops from
Thurazor wer non-evil (most fortunate since we are led by a paladin), and
thus we could recruit half a unit of troops (now being upgraded to a full
    unit of goblin wolf-riders).
Our paladin had grabbed a magic sword that was too good to be true, and
we had to discover the curse and deal with it. No problem in itself, but the
results left the paladin unsuitable to be Regent and touched off/expanded a
battle for leadership in the party.
Moving our troops North, we arrived in Lemnjohen just in time to foil an
invasion by the White Witch forces. We lured much of their force into an
ambush and allowed the rest to siege us. A rather rash attempt to kidnap the
enemy leader succeeded, and the mercanary enemy troops were paid to go away
or to switch sides. The conquest of Bjorlangen proceeded without incident.
We now squabble over future actions. Our dwarf wants to assist his
fellow dwarves in the Silverheart while most of the rest of us want to follow
a treasure map. our wizard of course is trying to find a Source. Since we
have some vigorous letter writers and most of us are busy with other
projects, it may be a month before "we" decide, and may be next year before
enough happens to require an update here.
I am having my problems as I like to rollplay and most of the others are
arcade players (whether prefering 6 18s or prefering the challenge of low
stats. So my attempts to make the PC something besides a tool is viewed as
annoying. Which it can be (tho I still think a kinder would be a fun PC.),
but a PC needs some personality.

Well, some might recall the excellent plot ideas sent to the list by Darren and
Mark a few weeks back in answer to my plea for help in kicking off my Roesone
campaign. I took them, and after only half an hour, the players had committed 3
murders (innocent farmers) and stolen their horses.

Needless to say, the priest of Ruornil is in a wee bit of trouble. Even though
he did not participate in the actual murder, neither did he stop it. (He just
sort of rolled on the ground and started crying.)

The troupe ended up in Bellam. Now, since the original plot line of the party
coming to save marlae roesone from assassination & eventually becoming heroes of
the realm, I am going to 'spank' them. >:)

Basically, they get bundled up by Orthien Tane's men and get placed on a ship &
taken north to Dhosone. (I am currently building an 'alliance' of sorts between
Bannien ANdien & Orthian Tane, who wants a peace of the lumber works in
Dhosone.) The party will be placed in a 'work camp' of sorts and do some hard
    time.

While there, they meet a Rjurik ranger guy (secretly a member of the Guard).
Eventually the party escapes into the wildlands of eastern Dhosone, and
eventually stumbles into the Giantdowns (where I plan on running Ed's module).

Now, they run around the Downs, and just as they rise to 'hero status' and are
preparing to claim the Downs as their realm, along comes the ranger from the work
camp and blows the whistle on the party.

How they are going to deal with this I haven't figured out yet, but I'm sure they
will think with their swords first, and brains second. ;)

Not true! I enjoyed them greatly, and saved them away into a file I use
for inspiration when the need strikes. But you didn't ask any questions,
so I didn't feel the need to respond. NEVER think that relating your
experiences on the list as a player or a DM is unappreciated. You never
know when your story sparks some creative tinder in a DM in need of an
adventure. That's one of the best features of this list!
