Nice trick! I stand corrected, and will amend my statement to say that those with
greater abilities *usually* perform greater deeds.

But I have to say, it sounds to me like the DM failed to play his dragon with all
the intelligence, knowledge and abilities it should have. Or barring that, that
your characters had great abilities of charm and wits. =)
