It was torched by the Brits in the war of 1812. "Canada" as a nation did not
exist then. It was an "imperialist" controlled territory. Sorry.

'Course your welcome to come down and try it again. I don't think anybody
would stop ya. It'd clean out the riff-raff for us. ;) hehehehe

Oh yeah, I finally remembered why we Americans use month/day/year instead of
the day/month/year European style. You see, the month is listed first so
you'll know generally when it is from. Date is next to specificy. The year is
last since it is really there only for clarification, typically you'll know
what year it's from. Europeans used dd/mm/yy because they seem to like
organized systems instead of ones that work. Have you ever tried to map a
building's rooms in meters or decimeters? Feet may be illogical but they work
    real well.

As an American and engineer, I always loathed my country's clinging to the English system. I was forced to learn both systems and how to convert from one to the other in order to do my work. What a pain! What follows made me rethink my stance. It's an excerpt from an article so I make no claim to orginality.

The metric system was proposed to the French National Assembly in 1791. In the ensuing 2 years Louis XVI lost his head, quite possibly due to the populace's displeasure at having to buy 10 eggs for the price of 12. The Corsican who followed Louis embraced the system in his march for world domination. But alas, the Corsican's army and navy, equipped with metric cannon and musket, were no match for the one-eyed man at Trafalgar (1805) Nor the Duke at Waterloo (1815), both of whom had to rely on "archaic" English system weapons.

In fact, in armed conflict between English and metric system weapons, no war has ever been won by a country utilizing the metric system. The "perpetrators" of the metric system have had a particularly bad record agianst the English system. The U.S. military's switch to the metric system does not bode well for the U.S.
    (a 9-mm ain't no .45).

Actually, in the architectural field we use millimeters on metric drawings. And to
be honest, it works rather well... er, uh, at least until the contractor gets the
drawings & doesn't know how to read them.

Armies from nations which drink distilled spirits also have a superior track
record against armies from nations which drink fermented beverages.

I guess we are lucky we never had to go head to head with the USSR then huh?
Unless we restricted our troops to JD for the duration instead of brewskis.
