A silly question
In a lot of the old norse/icelandic sagas there are described vikings with
black hair. It was actually quite common that the villain in the sagas had
black hair, while the hero had blond.
I have heard from german and english friends of mine that have visited
Norway, that they are surprised by the number of blond people here, but
that doesn't mean that we don't have any people with black hair and brown
hair is quite common. Red isn't all that common, but remember that blond
and red can be very similar.
In adition the lapps that live in northern Norway, Sweden and Finland often
have black hair.
Personally I would have allowed black hair on a character, but only as an
exception. You kinda lose the feel of Rjurik if every character in a party
is running around with black hair.

A silly question
About this whole black hair thing. If you read the Rjurik book carefully it
says most people with bloack hair have the Berserker Doom (can't specific
recall the name, I don't think that's it) or vice versa.
So there you go, black haired vos straight out of the book.

Oh, I did - this PC rolled bloodmark for an ability, and we were
thinking together what a good distinctive one would be - he came up with
black hair with a silver streak running through his hair. The brake I
had is that he wanted a Beowulf character, and I had never pictured
Beowulf other than the stereo-typical blond Viking ...
But, then after I posted the question to this list, I went through some
of my Norse mythology and found an interesting reference (Lapps, like
you said; not to mention a french dude in the chronicles who goes by the
name of "Dayraven" - who would have black if any norse dude did! Funny,
he was the villian compared to the hero Beowulf, so maybe only evil
alignment Rjurik should have black hair! Yea, thats it!)
:D
I must go speak to my PC - although somehow I don't think I will
have a very hard time convincing him ...
Cheers,
Darren (who is plagued with a bunch of psychotic PCs ...)

Darren, I don't think that's a good idea. If your psychotic PC's are
like my psychotic PC's, they'll just start killing everyone they meet
who has black hair.
