with a, say, Major bloodline receive BAs at Great level? It
seems some (particularly the Awnsheghlien) do, but is this
the general rule? If yes, then what is the point of
differentiating between bloodline strength levels
(tainted/minor/major/great)?

Yes, a major bloodline can receive great abilities.
However, there is a difference in whether you have a
tainted, minor, major, great or even true bloodline.
First, it is a matter of pride. One to be a member of a
true bloodline is something that differences you from the
masses. Also, the stronger your bloodline, the more able
commander you are(i.e. improved charisma score for
lieutenant and loyalty adjustement). Also it is used in
the domain custom method(which is a minor difference but
one still). Most important is that a few blood abilities
can only be possessed by great or even true bloodlines.
This is the difference for where it is. However, the
role-playing aspect is more important than any other
thing.
Temujin.
