Maybe they tried once, but she got fed up with him tramping snow all
over the house, leaving his bloodied axes in the living room, and not
washing his hands before he ate. Out at all hours, not knowing who
he'd be goading into war, always leaving discarded sacrifices lying
around the place where anyone could trip over them.
And as for HER, well, nag nag nag, all she ever does. Can she cook?
Well, they don't call her the goddess of cruelty for nothing, and as
for frigid....she is known as the Ice Maiden after all......

"And now you kill the lambs," whispered Dardalion.
"No, priest. No one pays for lambs."

List,
I was hoping one of you Planescape informed members would help me with a
few questions as I only play Birthright and do not have the Planescape series:
1) What exactly determines the rank of a power Greater, Intermediate or
Lesser? I was thinking that it would just be the number of worshippers
that the power has but checking the BoP here is the total church holdings
of each diety (not counting 0 holdings and baring miscounts, it was late).
Haelyn Greater 225
Kirche Lesser 137
Avani Greater 120
Neserie Interme 116
Sera Interme 115
Erik Greater 109
Belnik Inter 65
Ruornil Lesser 33
Laerme Lesser 31
Eolele Lesser 30
Kriesha Lesser 19
While I see why Erik would be greater even with his low number, his
religion does not lend to church holdings as does Avani (nomadic herdsmen),
this seems to hold ground. But can a power move up in status if enough
worshippers are brought under there church holdings? I was wondering
because one of my players is placed himself in a position to expand the
religion of Ruornil a great deal (maybe 30 more holdings). Could Ruornil
move up to Intermediate status after a generation or two? Kirche seems to
be ready to move up to Intermediate in time.

Hmm, I have no idea. Sounds like an interesting question though. Anybody
got any clues? Come on people lets talk about the game. What is this
[Fluff] everybody seems to be filling up the message boards with?

It depends on the world and what determines a gods power. I know
Forgotten Realms for instance it depends on worshippers, I think maybe
Dragonlance it just depends on the story (ie. Paladine and Takisis are
important therefore greater gods). I have a theory of why Cuiraecen
is a lesser god. I might have partially to do with worshippers, but I
think something else. Here my theory:
Haelyn is a Greater god
Nesserie is a Intermediate
Cuiraecen is has a power that is weakened from that of his parents so
that's why he's a lesser god.
This works only with Cuiraecen and I could be wrong.
Theory two it has a something to do with the role they played in the
Battle of Desimaar. Haelyn was closer to Anduiras(He's was a powerful
god), and therefore go more of his power. So he's a greater god.
What do you guys think about my theory YES or NO.

It depends.
Some people believe and play that Power level is diretly dependent on number
of worshippers, and some feel it is simply dependent on the sphere of
influence, and just how important that sphere is. And some use a combination
of both.
Generally any "official" answer you get would be along the lines of , "Do
whatever works best for you."
Now if you want my personal pontifications on how it should work in
Birthright...

What do you mean by fluff? I haven't seen any frivolous posts on this
list ...

I've always thought that the gods took a portion of their own power to
create their children, so that's why Cuiraecen is of lesser status.
Same with the other gods (Sera went from Greater to Intermediate because
of it, Ruornil down to Lesser). I always reasoned that the nature and
sun gods had lots of power (say one step below the Power Incarnate level
which Azrai reached just before the BoD :D), so that is why they are
'merely' Greater godhood status at present. I viewed it more of the
amount of bloodpower the gods sucked in at the Big Bang. So, in effect,
it takes somewhere in the neighbourhood of 75 blood points to reach
demi-godhood status; 375 for lesser; 750 for intermediate; 1125 for
greater; 1500 (for the status which Erik and Avani where at); all they
way to a whopping 5625+ bloodstrength for the Power Incarnate level
Azrai reached at the climax of his 'career' (I say he _only_ had 6000
points). :D
So I guess what I'm saying is that its not the amount of worshippers IMC
that counts but the sheer value of the Power's Bloodstrength, to keep
with the spirit of the BR rules. This opens up the possibility for
blooded people to make commoners 'divine' if anyone cares to explore
this path to power ... or, as IMC, the blooded to become gods themselves
... :)
In effect, I have always envisioned that the gods mixed their essences
to create these new powers of Cerilia, a joining of two souls (more or
less). They did this in preparation of events to come in my Second
Shadow War (which is the focus of my campaign). I have written up an
extensive background on this 'event' with each god or goddess and their
reasons for doing it, if anyone has any interest for me to post it (it
has become necessary for my campaign plot to explain in detail the Old
and New gods of Aebrynis; a small part of that history I posted to this
list under the "History of Aebrynis" thread a couple of weeks back). If
anyone wants it, and if I can find the time to actually sit down and
type it out, I will post it here.
Cheers,
Darren

Heh. It's actually rather safe over here. On the PS list, such is virtually
guaranteed to start a major war in short order.
I generally feel that Powers should not be totally dependent on thier
worshippers for power. In many cases, simple actions will feed power to
them, without any direct act of faith.
For example, acting within the code of chivalry during battle is essential
an act of devotion to Haelyn, whether or not one follows Haelyn. Likewise,
slaughter and mayhem will feed energy to Belinik, even when committed by the
most Lawful Good person.
In some cases, wholesale defections may reduce the power, Ruornil possibly,
but that could be more due to the seizing of certain aspects of his
portfolio by others. Bits of the night being taken first by Azrai, then by
Eloele (with the little dingus on that "e", but don't expect me to figure
out to make one). But this would be very rare.
Also, I keep the BR multiverse totally separate form the conventional (in my
case, GH based) multiverse. This also alters certain interactions from the
TSR "norm".
Many people do differently though.

Where did you get these figures from? (They seem quite precise for them
to be random.) And what do you mean exactly by 'bloodpower' and
'bloodstrength', are you refering to bloodline power of regents in the same
way? ie. The Gorgon and Micheal Roele are/were demi-gods by this system.

I would certainly be interested to read whatever you put on the list
related to this thread.
Thank-you
