The book of Revelations certainly depicts Jesus as a warrior.

To get back on topic a bit, has anyone played around with the idea of having any
monotheists in Birthright? Perhaps as a small persecuted community? Would
their priests have any granted powers and spells? What of elves...are they true
atheists, or do they just avoid the standard polytheism and opt more for
philosophic religions...such as philosophic monotheism, or pantheism? Do
monotheists always have to be portrayed as intolerant bigots..out to conquer the
world, or is it possible for them to believe what they do and still be nice
    people?

In one of my Campaigns, A Paladin of Avanalae (Avani) and a preist of Haelyn
began a crusade to unit the churches of Anuire into one church (ie all gods
under one roof). This would be more of a reason to have "one church" then a
monothiestic church, since there are really no influences to push it as such.
I understand the insecurity of many players to not recognise the god the
believe in, but this is just a game. If you can not handle the Fantasy
Religons, may I suggest ignoreing the religous aspects of them. This worked
for me until I matured enough as a gamer to handle them.
On the other hand, if you are dying to have a large hly war on your hand, then
that can be just as fun. With the One Church, I had the others raise up
armies against them. Fortunatly for the PCs that sided with the Paladin and
Priest, where given a chance to refute the previous claims, which most did.
The others died on the firey stakes that the Preist and Paladin did. A most
brutal happening, but the war could of gone either way. After all what is
better then a Holy War to cause a continent to be torn asunder? I can't think
    of one.

I have. My campaign focuses heavily on this concept beginning to
surface in Anuire re: the various faiths of Haelyn. In effect, the
temples are on the verge of contributing to a "Monotheism" tech
advancement. However, IMC, the various faiths of Haelyn will have to
'sort out' their differences (which is culmilating in a Holy War with
the Khinasi lands - IMC, the Avani churches have already discovered
this tech advancement and are instigating the resultant bloodshed (Jihad
and Crusades) with Anuire. It all has to do with the overall campaign
storyline IMC - "The Second Shadow War").

IMC, yes. That is to say, both! :) Trust me, I don't think I'll be
able to explain it very well ...

    Cheers,

Actually i think the elves know of the gods, realize they exist, but
really dont think they are any more than a powerful outer planar
creature, much like a demon or devil ;)
