Thread: Population stats.

I was going through the Rulebook the other day and looking at the
information on the populations of various provinces. According to the
Rulebook level 0 provinces have less than 1,000 people, level 1-3
provinces have 2,000-10,000, level 4-6 have 10,000-40,000 and level 7+
have populations "as high as 100,000 people."
This seems a little vague to me. What kind of averages do you guys
think is reasonable for the various province levels? Here are some
How does that sound?

It sounds good but here is the one I am using:
I think that this was posted to the list a while back by someone.

The real key to the province levels refers to its income potential, not in a
strict sense its population. Hence the ranges and vaguaries of the system.
When players have ruled up levels I have described it as many different
things. In Baruk-Azhik I always explained that the act of ruling (a month
process) was in fact a geological survey, as every community is centered on
the mine. Other explanation might involve other kinds of resources or
facilities. Ruling a 3 level province to a four, might in fact mean
establishing a new fair or market place. The new economic activity would
support greater taxation, guild activities, law courts, and temples even
though very few new people have immigrated. At higher levels the increases
might mean the establishment of a bank, like the Medici or Fugger,
leveraging the existing population's productivity to new hights.
People will tend to move to these locations over time, but there is no fixed
numbers, since I tend to look over the map and put the people in the plains
and near water, despite where the levels are located.
