CP`s and BR
Greetings from a lurker,
Has anyone devised a plan of action concerning guilders and character
points? Also, has anyone converted the BR specific skills to character
points?

I usually go with 3cp/level for normal characters and 5/level for guilder
characters.
There has been an article in one of the dragons giving characterpoint cost
for birthright special abilities. I'm not sure which dragon it was in so I
can't help you there.
I had already done a conversion of my own but that didn't really agree with
the article.
If you want my conversion mail me direct and I'll sent it to you.

Personally, I don't like character points. Too much trouble to keep track of,
but I do like the stuff about swapping character class' abilities in Skills and
Powers. In my campaign I use a sort of simplified version that is much easier
to keep track of. I break everything down from the 5, 10 and 15 point
increments to 1, 2 and 3 points. I don't use any of the traits, which are
mostly kind of goofy if you ask me.
This works out well for me because it is pretty interchangeable with the
standard proficiencies which are worth 1 or 2 "slots" per skill. Using this
method a player can go straight from character design to picking proficiencies
without having to use the really weird proficiency stuff in Skills and Powers.
Proficiency checks are based upon the average of the character level and the
skill upon which it is based, rounded up, so there is no need to add CPs to
increase skill, though someone might want to do it anyway.

The BIRTHRIGHT Players' Options character point system is detailed in
an article titled "Heroes of Cerilia" in DRAGON Magazine #247 (May
1998). This article does include the Guilder (who can have such
abilities as Armor Advantage, Bonus Proficiencies, Guild Bonus, Master
Trader, Proficiency Transfer, Read Languages, Shield from the Law,
Weapon Advantage, and Weapon Bonus).

I too had done my own conversion. I like some of the things done in the dragon
article and adopted a few. For the most part I prefer my methodology- of course :)
By the basic rules, I think the guilder gets one extra NWP slot per level. In S&P this
would translate to (if the player purchases the ability) 2 CPs to spend on NWPs per level.

I give guilders an extra 2 or 3 CPs but I have modified the rules concerning
getting CPs. A quick look at the prof slot aquirement table in the PHB, rouges
have the overall lowest prof rate. Wizards are lower, but only in weapons.
Warriors are the fastest in weapons. I think the PO:S&P people portrayed the
faster warrior weapon advancement well, but missed the other differences.
Therefore, I ruled that rouges get 3 CPs, the 2 CPs, then 3 and so on. I also
said that a wizard's weapons beyond his first cost an extra CP. This does a
little to balance it out, but maybe I am unbalancing my game (it hasn't
started). Does anyone think I am?
