> Guild courts I imagine being similar to "The Godfather".

"You come to me tonight, on the night of my daughter's investiture,
and you ask me for this favour...."

With an expensive inn, like the one mentioned, I suppose the 'court',
as it were, would consist partly of a 'Vegas-style' (as in "Casino"
amongst others) exclusive posh eatery where friends of 'the family'
come to see and be seen with those of importance, while less
desirable types are kept out by guild 'bouncers'. Private business
would, true to form, take place in a plush yet smoky back room away
from the public front. Not a bad idea at all, and just as the party
in my campaign are going up against the Dhoesonean timber guilds...

"Once I was a lamb, playing in a green field. Then
the wolves came. Now I am an eagle and I fly in a
different universe."
"And now you kill the lambs," whispered Dardalion.
"No, priest. No one pays for lambs."
