    RE: Blood Theft

Last Friday IMC one of my players committed Blood Theft on an Awnsheghlien
that I had invented. This being was the last of his line and had a Major
Bloodline of Azrai(obviously) with 56 Blood Points. The player had a Major
Bloodline of Reynir with 41 Blood Points. I increased his Bloodline by 11
points and allowed him to role for a new Blood Power.

Does his Blood Line change to that of Azrai?
What rules do I use to change a characters Bloodline Derivation, or to
allow the slayer of an Awnsheghlien to become one?

I am thinking of the description of the Sea Drake in the Boxed Set (who
slew the previous Sea Drake) or the Vampire in Blood Enemies (who slew an
    Awnsheghlien called the Sinister).

This is tough. I hate to tell a player he's corrupted his bloodline like
that, but look at the facts here.

He committed bloodtheft on a creature with a stronger bloodline than his own
and a derivation of Azrai. Going by just that, I'd say turn him into an
awnsheigh that looks like those buck-toothed guys in that Monty Python
sketch... He deserves it for doing something like that!

But, you only increased his blood power by 11. That's a gain of about 24%.
Going by that, maybe I'd take some pity on the guy. Give him a warning and
make him exibit subtle signs of corruption without actually flipping over to
the blood of Azrai. Give him a clue about his new problem and make him atone
    maybe...

What I do is roll a percentile dice. Here the BL increase by 11. Roll the
percentile and if it comes up as 11 or less, then low an behold he is on his
way towards corruption. The charecter then has 11 domain actions (1 Domain
action per point) in which they have to avoid evil actions. For each evil
action they do, I add an amount of 1% to 20% to the roll. At the end of the
period I roll again. If the roll is under the total, the the bloodline
becomes Azari, and next time the BL increase there is a chance for turning
into an awnshegh. This is the system I use.

The LotHK has one adventure in which rules are given for this situation.
In the Horns of Droene adventure (page70)
divide the players bloodlinestrength by 6 and let him roll that many d6
divide the azraiblooded character's bloodstrength by 8 and roll that many d8
if the player roll's higher it's ok otherwise his derivation changes to Azrai
he has to roll again for all the bloodabilities he had that aren't allowed
with an Azrai derivation and he get's an extra minor ability.

so PCbloodstrength/6*d6 Versus NPCbloodstrength/8*d8 (ROUND fractions down)

Well, I recommend you decide as a DM whether it would make a good story if his
derivation changed to Azrai. If you can't decide you might use the system
introduced in the Legends of the Hero Kings supplement, page 70:

"A PC who actually commetis bloodtheft on the [awnshegh] gets the additional
reward of an improved bloodline--with a chance of mishap. Divide that
character's bloodline strength score by 6, rounding down. Have the player
roll that number of six-sided dice; meanwhile you roll 6d8. If the PC's total
roll exceeds yours, his bloodline derivation is strong enough to withstand
[the awnshegh's] and bloodtheft occurs normally. If your roll is equal to or
higher than the PC's, then the curese of Azrai's blood takes over. The PC's
bloodline derivation changes to that of Azrai, and the PC gains a new minor
blood ability. He looses all blood abilities prohibited to those of Azrai's
bloodline, but for each ability lost gains one new roll on Table 12: Blood
Ability Acquisition in the "Bloodlines" section of the Rulebook."

It is useful to note that the awnshegh in question had a bloodline of 48.
This implies one d8 for every 6 points of Azrai blood strength moving the
balance in favor of being turned into an awnshegh (or at least beginning that
    path).

Note that just because a PC is cursed with the bloodline of Azrai, it does not
necessarily mean that they instantly become evil and twisted. If they let
their guard down against temptation to use and abuse the power they have, it
will corrupt the body, and eventually their spirit.

    Take care Heros!

Not in this case. If the PC had an original BS of 10 or less (less than he
gained), it would change his "derivation" to Azrai's. THis, unfortunately,
means that you have to track how he got which blood points. Did he blood-
    thieve any awnshegh previously?
