Someone had previously suggested that the NAZI's might not have happened
upon the final solution had the British not used camps in thye Boer war.
Hence it changes the proximate influence upon the NAZI's. Tim, its like
saying, so what if the Titanic wasn't sunk by torpedoes, 1400 still died
when she went down. I think the iceberg is important, and so are the Soviet
death camps of the Stalinist era.

Actually, my understanding was that Stalin's camps were more successful than
Hitler's. I don't recall the numbers of people killed in Soviet Russia, (and he
also had a while after WWII in order to keep them running) but I do remember
reading that there were more people killed under Stalin than people killed under
Hitler. In fact, both Hitler and Stalin have to take a backseat to Mao if my
memory of who was the biggest earth-shatteringly murderous genocidal scumbag in
human history is correct.
I think Tim's point, however, was that crunching numbers like this doesn't
really mean much to a debate regarding relative good or evil. I can't even
really conceive of a million people dead, let alone the six million killed under
the Nazis. Can you? The horror of that number is just too big to grasp as a
whole. Such evil is beyond all rational comprehension. You have to break it up
into different sized units in order to understand it. Perhaps all the stadiums
in the United States in filled to capacity with the dead? At a certain point
the mind just can't tally that many people. So the point is that such evil is
beyond quantifying and, therefore, the means used to achieve it are not as
important as its utter diabolical madness. Does it matter if the Nazi's got
some of their ideas from the Armenian massacres, or from Stalin, or from the
British? In the final analysis, I don't think it does. The means cannot
justify the ends any more than the ends justify the means.
Ah, hell. I kinda promised myself I'd stay out of these kinds of debates on the
Message Board.... Oh, well.

I had no intention of trying to lessen the crimes of that bastard Josef Stalin.
Please don't try and make it sound like that. My comment, since it wasn't
clear enough, was to indicate that it mattered not in the least WHO the Nazi
party patterned their death camps after. It doesn't make one stinking bit of
difference at all. All that matters is that they did what they did, and every
being that participated in the genocidal massacre deserves to burn in Hell.
Dis might be a good spot, but then my "Inferno" recollection is a bit rusty.
