Muster costs
In my campaign we use a house rule to justify the muster costs
of knights. To build a company of knights the regent Pc must before
hand build a monument of chivalry. This acts as a centre for the order
such as the round table did for Arthurian knights, providing a training
house for initiate knights, infirmary for the injured and mother house
for the administration.
The level of the monument gives the maximum number of knight
units able to be controlled by the regent PC. Muster cost now reflects
the administrative costs of reassigning several small estates to the
knights to provide them with income so they can buy there own armour and
horses. (We assume that any country ruler has small estates available
which revert to the ruler either on the death of the holder or when no
immediate succession is obvious). All very similar to the real world,
especially when the ruler does not gain the extra knights for d6+2
seasons after they are mustered.
Try and see if it works for you
