    Save BR Brainstorm

Was Getting together at Gen Con

Repots say there will be a 60% cance of showers and possible some
    lightning

Note: Someone had asked about the 'Save BR" poster idea. I was thinking
    that
we should try and keep at least most of the poster contents similar in
    design
in order to unify the project. (Also makes it seem more 'professional')
However, a general form could be sent to this list, and then downloaded
    by any
interested parties, thereby unifying the poster layout.

    - --Yeah, If you go to one store and see a Save BR poster and then went to
anoter store and say a totally diffrent poster it would seem less
organized. BUT, If you went to a store in Europe and then to one in the
US and then to Austrailia and saw the same poster...well that would be
    impressing.

Anyway, here's the list of ideas:

I think the Online City Project is a fantastic example of how much we do
like Birthright, so the more people who get involved with it, the
    better.
TSR is fully aware of this project (this is a fact, not IMO), and may
    sit up
and listen if we get a substantial number of people backing it.

    - --Yes, but we also need to DO someting. Now maybe I am wrong but te
last few times I've visited the city, it has been missing some big
chunks and hasn't seemed to go anywhere.

We need to provide feedback, not
simply "save BR because we like it". And this must all be done properly.
Which means someone will probably have to "oversee" the 'resurrection'.

    Instead
of just signing a piece of paper (or facsimile thereof) each of us
    should
write a letter to those in charge at TSR and let them know (in a polite
manner, of course) how much we love this setting, and that we are more
    then
willing to spend hard earned cash on any BR product they see fit to
    grace us
with. By taking the time to write a letter and by spending the postage
    to
send it, you can really make an impression on corporate types.

    - --Combining what I said about the poster and what carrie said about the
letters, we should all keep them very alike. Perpas we should put the
"traditional" BR logo on the letter (you all know, the one from the box,
I've not seen it used too often in PBeM or other pages).

    But what
will most likely "save" BR is if we refuse to let it die. We need to
continue to encourage every gamer that breathes to play BR and get to
    love
    it like we do.

    - --And not only gamers that breath but non-gamers wo we can introduce to
    AD&D and then BR.

Anyway. Anyone who runs a PBeM should foward what we agree on here to
all the players. I know a lot of them are on the list but if we can get
those who are not then they can tell thier BR friends, and they can tell
    thiers, etc.

    - --My idea, I am glad you put it up here.

    I would also suggest
letters to the Dragon and Dungeon and any third party or indepentdent
    mags for the RPG world.

    - --A little side note...I ave seen a few ads for AD&D worlds in Duelist
but never a Birtright one. I would think Duelist would be a good place
for Wizards to get a few more players into AD&D. after all, most Magic
players I know play or are favorably inclined to RPGs.

Here are some other things I though might work:
    1) Every concerned BR fan out there, takes a copy of a "Save BR" poster
    to
their local hobby shops, and ask for it to be put up on the walls for
    other s
    to sign.

    - --VERY good idea...too bad I can't help since I have no such place near
me and tend to buy all my books from Borders and boxed stuff and a few
more books from a place in the mall that wouldn't go for that.

    2) We all write up a short, diplomatic, and friendly email, and send
    them to
'the Big Cheese' at TSR, either on a specified date, or gradually over
    a
course of weeks. (Imagine receiving 1 save BR letter a day, every day,
    for a
month or more.....) This could be a form letter which is sent to
    everyone on
this list, who prints it off, signs it, mails it, & then emails the form
    letter

off to friends, who email the letter off to friends, who email.....

    - --I really think what carrie and someone else said above is true, a
paper letter would have a lot more effect. I think we should send the
letter's skeleton out to people as described just above via email and
tell them not to send it until such and such a date. Since snail mail
isn't as predictible as email in delivery time, whe should all send it
on the same day and let out varying distances from TSR spread out the
letters. OR, I just thought of this, we could pay a bit more to make
sure it gets thier on a certian date. Now we could really have a lot of
effect if they get a letter with the BR logo on the front with a $5
postage, or someting like that. I am stopping now so I don't ramble on.

    3) Same as idea number one, except we get all of the folks with BR web
    pages
to put a "Save BR guest book" on their site. Then, any 'surfers' who
    wish, can
sign there names to the petition as well.

    - --An exelent idea. In fact ahh i don't have the words. Once we get a
lot of signings we can send the page (or it's URL) off to TSR and let
    them take a look.

The reason you don't see the "traditional" logo in places other than TSR
products (or those created by licensees) is that it's a registered trademark
and unauthorized use is illegal. If you're talking about creating and
distributing a "sample letter," I wouldn't put the official BR logo on it, nor
on a poster or anything else intended for public display. It's not that anyone
is being mean-spirited about this. Companies just have to be very vigilant
about policing the use of their trademarks, or they risk losing their
    protected status.

I'd recommend, therefore, using the Birthright NetLogo instead as this is
reasonably well known, at least among Internet-capable BR fans.
