    Getting together at GenCon

I will be attending a BR Q&A seminar at 7 pm on Thursday (at GenCon) and,
according to my schedule, that's the best time for me to get together with
people from the list and hang out. Let me know if you'll be available.
Maybe we can talk at the seminar and then wander off to the THEY MIGHT BE
    GIANTS concert later that evening.

BTW, not surprisingly, most of the other TSR-sponsored BR events will not
be held this year. Particularly, I'm not running the SHADOW WORLD preview
(no product, no preview) or the "Legacy of Kings" boardgame. I tried to
drum up some help to run the "Council of Kings" around the office, but no
    luck.

I will hold the Q&A, though. I still think of BR as a living campaign world
and want to encourage people to get together and talk about it. With luck
(and all those petitions I keep hearing about), we'll have it back on the
regular publishing schedule in no time. (Don't quote me ;-)

Anyway, I'm off for a few days to get some work done on my ever-faltering
body, so I'll check the list again next week. Talk to you then.

Actually, Thursday evening would be bad for me (and for Kariu/Muaadeeb as
well) due to the fact that we will not be able to leave home until approx. 6
PM (CDT) and it is a 5 hour drive... Friday and or Saturday would be
better... we will have the chance to recover from the long drive by then...

Hmmm.... the petition idea has been getting no where. In an effort to drum
up new ideas & support for this little 'adventure', I have snipped & pasted
(what I consider) to be the highlights & concerns of everything that was tossed
around to date. I couldn't figure out how to 'paste a quote' from old email, so
I've seperated each idea/comment into paragrpahs.
If anyone has any new ideas, please, don't hesitate to drop me a line and
    tell me about them!
Note: Someone had asked about the 'Save BR" poster idea. I was thinking that
we should try and keep at least most of the poster contents similar in design
in order to unify the project. (Also makes it seem more 'professional')
However, a general form could be sent to this list, and then downloaded by any
interested parties, thereby unifying the poster layout.
Anyway, here's the list of ideas:

I think the Online City Project is a fantastic example of how much we do
like Birthright, so the more people who get involved with it, the better.
TSR is fully aware of this project (this is a fact, not IMO), and may sit up
and listen if we get a substantial number of people backing it.

We need to provide feedback, not
simply "save BR because we like it". And this must all be done properly.
Which means someone will probably have to "oversee" the 'resurrection'.

    Instead
of just signing a piece of paper (or facsimile thereof) each of us should
write a letter to those in charge at TSR and let them know (in a polite
manner, of course) how much we love this setting, and that we are more then
willing to spend hard earned cash on any BR product they see fit to grace us
with. By taking the time to write a letter and by spending the postage to
send it, you can really make an impression on corporate types. But what
will most likely "save" BR is if we refuse to let it die. We need to
continue to encourage every gamer that breathes to play BR and get to love
    it like we do.

    Write up anything
and everything you can think of to expand this great campaign setting, and
send it in to the powers that be at Dungeon, Dragon, and TSR Inc. itself (or
publish it on the internet, and advertise here, the folks at TSR will hear
about it...right Ed...Carrie?). These are really the most powerful things
we can do to protect our favorite setting.

Anyway. Anyone who runs a PBeM should foward what we agree on here to
all the players. I know a lot of them are on the list but if we can get
those who are not then they can tell thier BR friends, and they can tell
    thiers, etc.

    I would also suggest
letters to the Dragon and Dungeon and any third party or indepentdent
    mags for the RPG world.

Here are some other things I though might work:
    1) Every concerned BR fan out there, takes a copy of a "Save BR" poster to
their local hobby shops, and ask for it to be put up on the walls for other s
    to sign.

    2) We all write up a short, diplomatic, and friendly email, and send them to
'the Big Cheese' at TSR, either on a specified date, or gradually over a
course of weeks. (Imagine receiving 1 save BR letter a day, every day, for a
month or more.....) This could be a form letter which is sent to everyone on
this list, who prints it off, signs it, mails it, & then emails the form letter

off to friends, who email the letter off to friends, who email.....

    3) Same as idea number one, except we get all of the folks with BR web pages
to put a "Save BR guest book" on their site. Then, any 'surfers' who wish, can

sign there names to the petition as well.

And the excellent wisdom of Carrie Bebris:

Snail mail letters make far more of an impression than
the electronic variety. Email can be too easily dismissed with the touch of a
delete key. Plus, what *looks* more impressive--a stack of 100 personalized
letters with postmarks from around the world, or a computer screen with a list
of email addresses (or the same email form letter showing up every day)?
That's not to say your petition idea should be abandoned, just that in a
pencil & paper hobby, old-fashioned pencil & paper letters (well, ok, they can
be typed :) will have greater impact.

Again, these ideas are right on target, along with Simon's post about
supporting the Online City project. Any company, whether it makes RPGs or
shoelaces, needs demand for its products in order to support them. Evidence of
demand (in the form of new players, article submissions, other player-
initiated ideas like the OCP, participation in BR events at conventions,
positive response to things like the RPGA Hogunmark release and the recent
Dragon cover, and other feedback) creates tangible proof that when Ted and
other in-house supporters abstractly talk about the "BR fans out there," there
*really are* BR fans out there, in significant numbers.

So write those letters (keep them positive). Tell all the BR players you know
to write. Teach others how to play, and encourage *them* to write. Send the
letters to Bill Slavicsek, head of the TSR Product Group. And if you have an
idea for a magazine article, read the submission guidelines on TSR's website:

Well, this works for me. Man, no wonder I was closed out of Legacy. *sigh*
At least, I think I have nothing going on Thursday at 7. I'll look for the
location of the seminar in the book.

This means Legacy of Kings, Shadow Moon and the Council o' da Kings are
cancelled?? Grrrr. These events would be some of the main reasons I'd drive
    for 5 hours.

It's too bad if we'd be w/o Memnoch, but I plan to attend the Q&A on Thursday.
It would be great to get together for a BR adventure if anyone on the list
wants to haul all their stuff to Milwaukee.

I have an adventure that's just itching to be play tested. Anyone want to run
it? I'll be happy to sit back and laug... I mean watch. :) I'll even bring
my beater set of BR rules, PHB and DMG. (Yes, I have two box sets so don't say
I didn't do my part to help sales! ;)

    Rick,

Do you have characters for this adventure? Where is it set? I use S&P along
with a few house rules so I don't know if I'm up to speed on running "Core"
AD&D. Saturday night and Sunday look open for me. How about anyone/everyone
    else?
