    Ranger Regents

We talked about Ranger stuff of this sort before but I want to bring it
    up again.

    1. Why don't rangers get a special free action (like thieves and
    priests)?

    2. How do rangers cast realm spells?

    3. Are "Demi-Rangers" allowed in BR (offical things)?

What would you suggest? One person came up with a free espionage action for
rangers that focussed on information regarding troop movements/numbers based
upon their wilderness abilities. I kind of liked that myself.

    > 2. How do rangers cast realm spells?

They don't. Only mages and priests can cast realm spells. A couple of people
have said that they think paladins and rangers can cast realm spells. I think
you could possibly justify it in the case of paladins. They get RPs from
temple holdings, so their connection to the holding that allows priests to cast
realm spells is similar. (I still don't allow them to cast realm spells as I
don't think a fighter subclass has the dedication to spell casting that a
priest has and, therefore, is unable to wield the high level magics involved in
    casting realm spells.)

But rangers have no connection to temples or sources, so even if you were going
to allow a paladin to cast a realm spell, a ranger would not have the same
ability. They get RPs from guilds. It's hard to imagine a ranger martialing
the mystical power of the guild to cast realm spells isn't it?

    > 3. Are "Demi-Rangers" allowed in BR (offical things)?

    I'm afraid I don't even know what a demi-ranger is.... Sorry.

I'm uncertain about questions 1 and 3, but the answer to this one is, they
don't. Only Wizards and Priests (and maybe Paladins, debatable) are able to
cast realm spells. Although Rangers do get priest spells at higher levels,
    they are not temple leaders.

Mostly because they get other breaks. And being able to collect regency on
provinces, law AND guilds is a pretty big advantage. The real question is
why don't fighters get any of the breaks? They get none of the free
actions that other classes do, plus they are pretty limited to what
regency they can claim. I have toyed with the idea of give them a discount
on army maintenance (but armies seem pretty cheap to me already) or giving
them a bonus during battle (you would think that soldiers would fight
harder for someone who thought and felt like them, with whom they could
identify), but I have not done either of these things. In part, I think
that they might get some neat advantages in the forthcoming "Book of
Regency" which has now been pushed back to next year (although Ed dud
mention once that he would try to get it pushed up a bit, seeing that the
whole thing was basically ready to send to the printers.

    > 2. How do rangers cast realm spells?

They don't. I would NEVER allow rangers to cast realm spells. Paladins
    neither.

    > 3. Are "Demi-Rangers" allowed in BR (offical things)?

Unfortunately, I have no idea what a "demi-ranger" is, unless it is a
demi-human ranger, in which case is it certainly open to elves, and I
would probably allow a player to talk me into allowing a Halfling to be
    one.

Yeah, I came up with that idea but never got down to refining it. It
was based on source level (wilderness) and was improved by the source
    level, not the province level.

I liked the idea that someone had about Fighters claiming RP from armies
    or fortifactions.

They are from the ranger handbook. It is the offical rules on dwarves,
halflings, and gnomes being rangers. They are quite limited tough and
must usually take a kit. One of the few possuble kits for the Dwarven
    Ranger is Mountain Man (locicaly).

Liker all warrior classes and the bard class, the rules just never outlined
any for them. I don't think anyone really knows why, they can only guess.

    >
    > 2. How do rangers cast realm spells?

They can't cast realm spells any more than a magician or a bard can. Can't
    control that much magical power.

I'm not familiar with the term....
