If I may just put in my 2 GB...

A paladin is great class to play, and if played properly will reward his
player with a massive amount of satisfaction.
A TRUE paladin would WANT to increase his domain. He WOULD wage war on
others if , AND ONLY IF, they were commiting some kind of atrocities.

For instance: Let's say that Ghoere began warring on Ilien. You would be
compelled to aid Ilien, because Rogr is your siege lord. You may even win.
BUT you would not want the land you may have taken from Ghoere. UNLESS it
was painstakingly clear that Ghoere was evil, and abused his own people,
murdering the people of Ilien, because they were not 'true' Anuireans or
something or other.

I probably could think up a few more examples, but I hope that I have been
of help.

IMHO, and don't take it too personal. If you really wish to expand, then
your not playing a paladin. You are playing a fighter, how thinks he is a
paladin, and has somehow managed to trick his god into thinking it too.
