    Regarding Azrai

I was recently discussing an interesting possibility with a friend on
the internet. He is a Greyhawk player and brought up the possibility
that Azrai and Tharizdun may be the same power! I don't know too much
about WoG, but as we swapped info, it seemed he was on to something.
Apparently, Tharizdun was imprisoned a long time ago in a war with
other gods (who died) on some other plane. Perhaps this was the battle
at Deismaar. Now, it has been theorized many times on this list that
perhaps Azrai became the Cold Rider rather than die. This would also
fit well, as it means he did not die but is perhaps trapped...as
Tharizdun is supposedly imprisoned. We even checked the PS supplement
"On Hallowed Ground" and noticed it left open plenty of room for the
possiblity. Has anyone else noticed similarities? Does anyone know of
anything that would make it impossible? Also, I know some won't like
the idea, but as always it is good to discuss it for the possiblities
and let individual DMs make their own decisions. Heh, I wonder though,
if maybe the BR creators had something in mind...

Brian, as I am a lurker on 2 Greyhawk lists as well as this one, I cross
posted this to those (with your name on it) for comment.

    Regarding Azrai

    Aha! Another convert! Azrai Lives!

    just kidding.

That was the first thing I asked when I got on the list last year (i
think...) And it devolved heavily (unfortunately) into flames and personal
arguments on the list. Bad move on all of our parts (that argued over this
    anyway)

You're right about On Hallowed Ground, in fact, if you look in the list in
the back of the book on "Dead Gods" you'll note that the literal English
being used firmly states that the old gods died trying to stop their dark
brother. It does not say that Azrai died. Now that can be dismissed as
taking the words too literally, but with the new "Essence of Evil" series
that was to be released (hope & pray), the quest is to prevent Azrai's
    rebirth. Hrmmmmm.

I don't know a thing about Greyhawk - except they released the first
adventure before refleasing the new Players Guide (now - correct me if I'm
wrong here, but didn't TSR, through Dragon, re-assure people that that very
same stupid stunt would NEVER happen again? I.E. releasing adventures
before required/suggested supplements come out). oh well.... ain't my
    customers.

I am presently running my campaign that will culminate with the rebirth and
final death of Azrai, it should take about a few years to wrap up, so we'll
    see what happens.

    Just a non-BR side note:

The first adventure was set before the time period of the Player's Guide. It
helped explain some of the changes in Greyhawk since the last incarnation by
bringing gamers into the action. I imagine it was geared more towards
long-time Greyhawk players who knew the world better.

Brian, aka Dearnen...a newbie to Greyhawk but an old hand at BR.
