    Elven charm abilities?

On p. 6-7 of the BR rulebook, it states that elven voices "can hold a
mortal spellbound." Does this translate into any gaming effects, or is
    this just for flavour?

I noticed the following sentence says "Unfortunately, elves are too
mindful of their superiority and treat others with coldness or
condesencsion." Does this attitude counteract the elven charm ability?
If so, would it be possible for an elf to discipline himself to hold his
attitude in check to use this ability against humans? Or, could an
adventuring PC elf, who has rid himself of his prejudices use this?

    Thanks,

    Bruce Anderson

I think it should have some game effect. Perhaps the elf gets to
do a Charisma-vs.-Wisdom contest to get to charm/hold person or just
influence the NPC reaction, but only so long as the elf keeps talking and
    takes no offensive action.

No. You can have utter contempt for someone but still hold them
spellbound -- famous actors do it all the time. ;) In fact, if you are
beguilingly majestic enough, you may even be able to convince your
audience that they deserve to be looked down upon by so magnificent a
being as you have tricked them into believing you are.

I don't think it's necessary to work that hard. In fact, probably
the reverse: if an elf is having a long, serious, emotional conversation
with a mortal, it would be difficult to *avoid* using the charm.
