Let's say it this way: Roele gave him the land, but never said anything
about the awshenglien that lived there.. =) (I think they missed to tell
that to the spider)... )=)

What "present-day" domains did the duchy of Diemed encompass?
Ilien?
Medeore?
Roesone?
And what did the duchy of Aewerne encompass?
Osorde?
I have no clue.

The other half of Roesone, but no part of Osoerde.

They have a very rough map in the front of the novel "The Iron Throne"
which shows the original 12 duchies. Aerenwe was it, by itself, nada. Had
a few provinces of Roesone, I think, but it's hard to tell. Diemed had
parts of Roesone, Medoere and Ilien. Ilien, surprisingly was the first to
leave Diemed. Oh, and Osoerde was a duchy of it's own, and I know Coeranys
is listed as currently having a duchess, way back when, it was listed as a
"border" country, or some such.

Diemed: all of Endier, Ilien, Medoere, Diemed (of course), and parts of
Roesone (basically Ghoried, Caercas, and part of Fairfield)
Aerenwe: all of Aerenwe (of course) and parts of Roesone (specifically
Edlin, Duerlin, Abbatour, Bellam, and part of Fairfield)
Hope this helps!

As far as I know, Diemed never actually ruled the area around Endier. Roele
granted the rights to the place to Diem, but he could never wrest it from
the Spider.

Rights=control over that land, no? :D Never said anything about whether
they actually *ruled* that land, if you know what I mean! :P
(my guess is that it was a 0 level province at the time, before RE came)

Now we're getting way into quibbling. . .he was given rights to the land by
Roele, but not by the Spider. So he never "controled" it, or Ruled it. Or
probably even set foot in it (and anyone he sent into it, probably only
came back, if at all, in several pieces. . .which I would hardly consider
excercising control.)

Okay, true - whatever you say - all I'm saying is that I don't see why
someone needs to go ask permission to settle an area that doesn't belong
to the person he was asking. Or, was given rights over a piece of land
but not allowed to say he owned that piece of land, and believing those
rights made it a part of his demesne. If one take all this as given,
then no, Endier was not part of Diemed. Sorry for any confusion I have
caused.

Feudalism is a terrible, confusing form of government. When I'm Emperor, I
plan on scrapping the whole thing and going for something more rational. .
.once i can figure out what that might be. :)~
