    Vassalage question

My BR game is small, me DM, and my friend regent of Tournen. The game is
mostly strategic but there's some role-playing when i throw in some internal
plot with his advisors and other close npc's. He is a Rogue and controls 90%
of the guilds and several trade routes in Tournen. He has recently fallen for
a trap i devised. Alamie talked him into attacking into the 5 peaks in a joint
mission to liberate and split the land to expand both domains. However, Alamie
never planned to follow thru and has attacked into Tournen while the bulk of
Tournen's forces are in the 5 peaks. Guilder Kalien of Endier discovered this
and sold the info to Tournen for 15GB. He raced back home to barely arrive in
time to meet the Alamie forces at the border. Now being weakened by fighting
in the 5 peaks, he doesnt stand a chance to defend his domain. Avanil has
offered him to be a vassal and Avanil would send troops to help save the him.
Avanil asked for 1/4 Regency and Gold collected. His Bloodline is mid 20's, so
that's 6 or so regency. He collects 80 or so GB's making it 20GB tithed.
He has sent a counterproposal to Avanil saying that he'd be a vassal to Avan
if Avan helped him not only save Tournen from attack, but also help him
rejoin Alamie and Tournen into the one domain it once was! Tournen would get
power, as would Avanil in the form of increased money and regency tithed.

My question is: Is that a resonable amount. Can Avanil increase that amount
later? If Tournen refuses to pay more, does Avanil smite him down? I think so.
Does anyone think that Boeruine(sp) will be very threatened by this? Any other
Ideas on where this turn of events could go? Would Avanil help defeat Alamie?

thanks for reading my long winded post.

    so.

Mainly, do you think it is reasonable? Avan can not increase the amount of
regency demanded without another ceremony of vassalage. He could as k for
orw gold and the enw ceremony, but that would legitamately give the PC cause
to break the agreement. And lead to Avan declaring war most likely.
Boeruine would not like the whole thing, but probably could not do anything
about it except send money to Alamie.
Ghoere would hate it, and could do something about it. If Avanil's armies
cross into Alamie, I am sure Ghoerean armies will cross over to oppose them.
Possibly Carielean armies as well since their Guilder controls aa lot of the
holdings in Alamie (at least in the book).
The Mhor and Elinie would probably not get involved if the whole thing looks
to be a stalemate, but should Avan and Tuornen start marching into Ghoere,
or Ghoere start marching into Tuornen, one or both might intervene to
    preserve the staus quo.
The only southern state that might possibly get involved would be Diemed,
which could sign a nasty little pact with Ghoere, giving help now in
exchange for help later restablishing Dieman power through Medoere, Ilien
and Roesone. Or not. That would be a hard deal to make.
You also mentioned kalien of Endier. I am sure he is plannign on taking over
as many guild holdings as he canduring the chaos this whole campaign causes.
He might also intervene when one side is assured victory so as to insure his
    place at the victors side.
And of course, you must come back to the issue of whether Avan would trust a
vassal with this much power. Is the PC regent Lawful? Then he likely would.
If he is chaotic, I seriously doubt it. If neutral, a real toss up. Possibly
he would agree if Avan got most of the law holdings in Alamie like he has
    Taeghas.
So, are those enough possibilities for you? The possibilities devously
    twisted enough? I hope so.

hmm, why hasn't Boeruine contacted Alamie (or vise versa) about a joint
attack against Torunen. Predominantly, tournen, and Taeghas have been the
battling ground for Avanil and Boeruine. If tournan becomes a vassal for
Avanil, then that would prove a definate "bummer" for Boeruine. My
thoughts (from Boeruine's standpoint) would be to also invade Tournan,
and possibly get help from Talinie.

Heheh. Oh, that is sweet. I like it. Very nice ploy.

Yes, that is a reasonable amount. Lots of times I've seen vassalage
agreements at 25% in the PBEMs I've played in.

Can he increase it? Well, he can try. They would have to have another
investment ceremony to increase the vassalage costs of Tuornen. Of
course, Avan can say "OK, pay me 50% or I'll squish you!" and follow
through with it if your regent friend doesn't do it. ;)

Boeruine will probably be VERY threatened. Alamie supports Boeruine (at
least, in words), so Tuornen conquering Alamie AND vassaling to Avanil...
I see another war starting. Talinie and Boeruine would probably invade
Tuornen or Taeghas at the earliest convenience.

As far as Avanil helping against Alamie... that is a good question.
Depends on how you want to do it. If he does, it is likely Boeruine will
invade. If he doesn't, Boeruine might be forced to hold back.
