Netbook-Monuments
If you have ever been to the Birthright Netbook and looked at the new
domain actions, you might have noticed the part called "Sample
Monuments."
To anyone who would like to and has the time, here are a few historical
Wonders (Ever play Civilazation or Civ2?) that would make good
monuments:
Copernicus's Obsevatory (The observatory in the Imperial City)
Marco Polo's Embassy (A kind of big embassy, UN like place)
Lighthouse at Alexandria (C'mon there has to be lighthouses)
I'd like to see these in the NetBook someday.
I'll give them a shot if no one says they'll do it, but I'd rather have
a more exprinced player do this. Good Luck!

Well, my friend, your friendly neighbourhood SC members for the BROCP in
part discussed this very subject at their last meeting (April 18th)! We
were arguing ... er, discussing :) about what would constitute an
imperial monument for inclusion into our beloved jewel of the Anuirean
Empire. Various things were thrown around (but no one got hurt) and we
came up with the following list (I think this was the agreed upon list -
my brain always hurts afterwards when 'discussing' thoughts with James
and Simon - can't always recall things afterwards ... :) If it isn't the
'right one', well, hopefully they will post a revision!):
1) The Imperial Library 2) The Great Lighthouse (imperial harbour
included in this, I think) 3) Some kinda Great park/plaza 4) The Ruins
of the College of Sorcery 5) The Imperial Gates of Anuire (on the Caern
- - I think includes a Great Bridge) 6) Some kinda Collossal Statue
(although not too sure about this one - few people liked this idea) and
7) The Holy Tomb of (the First Emperor ???)
We agreed upon that there would be only 7 wonders existant within the
CoA (Seven Wonders of the World explanation).
What we, the SC members, would like to know is what everyone thinks
about these 7 monuments. Should these be included in the City of Anuire
with any game affects? Do you like them? Can you suggest any (better)
ones to replace one or more of the above? Can you give us better names
to go with the wonders above?
Cheers,
Darren

>While I see the Imperial City have a lighthouse or two, I don't think it
would be THE light house. I think that would be more a Brechtian
construction myself.<
Wouldn't it culturally be more appropriate to the Khinasi or Masetians? And
since the Masetians were such great sailors, it really should go with them.
Now despite other things, the Colossus would be good for the Brechts. And
something similar to Magellan's Voyage (since we seem to be into Civ2).

what we decided was that we would design the game effects in, as if these
monuments were actual 'Monuments' (from a purley game mechanics
point-of-view) and then leave it up to individual DM's to decide whether
they wish to use these benefits.

Just in case people didn't see my original revision of Darren's post, here
is the actual list of monuments we tentatively decided on. Your input on
what benefits these would provide would be great. If anyone has any better
names for these, then please suggest them. We're trying to avoid the
Imperial/Royal/Great/Grand XXXXXX:
* Imperial Palace
* Ruins of the CoS
* Grand Library (not part of the CoS, linked to some degree to the Imperial
Heralds' Library)
* Royal Colosseum
* Lighthouse - unsure where (Avanil Shore, or on one of the islands). It is
supposed to guide ships into the harbour. This lighthouse is not meant to
be THE lighthouse, and it kind-of covers the Imperial Harbour as well.
* Gates of Roele - possibly the city gates; though someone had the idea
that there may be 7 gates on the causeway, which you have to pass through
to get from the Avanil Shore
to the Imperial Island.
* Imperial Plaza - a park/plaza, which combines several minor monuments
into a single Monument. It includes the grand clock (see an earlier post)
and a milestone (large tower,
which is used as a central measuring point), possibly combined in the one
structure. The plaza is ringed with statues dedicated to all of the
'common' gods of Anuire.
Does everyone like these ideas? any other suggestions?

Central London is loaded with monuments. And there are something like
10,000 war memorials scattered around the country.
One thing that might work is that if a ruler wins a major battle and
within the next season comemorates it with the construction of a
monument, they have some chance of getting an additional bonus to
province loyalty.
