Other strange rules
As we have been discussing the strangeness that is the Island Wizard Rule
from Havens of the Great Bay, I would like to ask about another rule from
that expansion. It was presented under the Coulhabie(spelling) domain. It
stated that the maintenance costs for non-human units in a non-human realm
was reduced by one. I could not find any reference to this in the main
boxed set. Has anyone else dealt with this rule?

Yes, I have dealt with the rule, and it is the long way of saying that as
far as maintenance costs go the special units in the BR rulebook are applied
only for human realms. When a non-human realm is mustering troops of the
same racial makeup as the realm itself, the maintenance cost is 1 less than
what it says under Special Units.

You realize that this makes elven archers have no maintenance cost for an
elven realm. This will in turn lead to rather large stacks of elven units
running around

If this were really the case, Rhoubhe would have absolutely no problem
expanding into and crushing Boeruine. And Sielwode or Tuarhievel would have
huge incomes.

It was my intention that 1 GB be the minimum maintenance cost.

Ok, I apologize for going by memory when I should have looked up the special
units in the BR book. And thank you all for the comments. Let me amend
what I have put down...
IMO, when it comes to the mustering and maintenance costs for non-human
units, the units are exorbitantly priced (I was thinking more along the
lines of a dwarven crossbow units' muster and maintenance cost and I sent
the response without thinking and taking all races into account). I believe
that when mustering and maintaining units, the muster and maintenance costs
for the non-human realms units' should follow the same pattern as the human
ones'. In other words, when mustering an archer unit, regardless of race
(as long as the regent that is mustering them is of the same race AND holds
a domain of the same race) the muster cost will be 2 GB and maintenance cost
will be 1 gold bars. When mustering a cavalry unit, it should always be 4
GB muster and 2 GB maintenance.
There, that is my full description of that particular rule
Thanks all,
Memnoch

Excellent Idea TED! This ought to reflect the rule accurately and prevent
players and NPC's from exploiting it.

Acutally Rhuobhe does not need to maintain his armies as they serve due
to their hatred of humans and require no payment to do so. The only
thing that stops him is that not all Elves feel the same way he does so
he only has a certain number of followers.

True, but what about Mur-Kilad? Or any of the goblin kingdoms? They'd be
doin' more damage. Though I do like Tie' skar's policy of keeping out of war
until someone demands it. Then send THAT person to die in a foreign war.
Smart goblin.
