    Birthright - Magic

Regarding the discussion on magical items as tribute instead of Gold.

The birthright setting continues to mention the relative lack of magic.
This is reinforced in the Priestcraft book.

If a regent were to demand so many swords (of a magical nature) for
their units as tribute instead of GB's, the simple answer is that there
are not enough members of the clergy (or wizards) who are of high enough
levels to enchant these items. Not to mention, the incredible cost in
both monies and the difficulty in acquiring the special materials (See
High-Level Campaigns, Tome of Magic etc...).

This is exactly how I feel on the matter. A regent may be able to coerse
enough magical weapons to outfit his bodyguards, but not enough for a
whole unit. (Say, one a year in lieu of GB or RP as part of a vassalage
    agreement.)
