    Ruling Diffrence?

I participate in two campains, one Birthright (I DM) and one "regular."
My "regular" character was going about build a fairly small sized
castle using the rules in the Castle Guide. Wondering what BR level it
would be, i converted the number into GBs. I got someing around 300 GBs
and decided there was a diffrence in costs for ruler in Birthright. I
found the same thing out with troops (comparing the muster cost of
knights to that of 150 or so heavy calvalry from the DMG.

My guess is that it costs BR rulers less because they have RPs to help
    them.

Comments? Questions? Other Ideas? (or other findings?)

Another possibility would be the comparitive value of the gold piece.
Perhaps in BR one gets more for their dollar. I have alsways liked it when
the peasents go ahh! over a gold, rather than say in FR where a gold is
    just a TIP !

Playing in BR.. it's probably best just to use the Birthright domain action of
Create Fortification. The BR makers screwed up on this one. I recognized
that fact too. The castles would cost much more than the few GB used in BR.
I'm surprised half the realms are covered in Castles along the borders, rather
    than just the capitol province.

Weeeell. . .we don't want to get deep into economics and how
"realistic"/convertable the BR rules are. Suffice to say, the econometric
model in BR is functional, and. . .Hmmmn. . .should we leave it at that?
Well, let's put it this way: once you start changing one thing to make it
more realistic, you realize the need to change something else to make it
work better. . .and end up re-creating the entire taxation/expendature
system. Which is in effect creating a very different game. I mean, I could
launch into my ancient rant about how, IMO, TRs shouldn't be quite so
profitable compaired with Provincial Taxation (said by someone who enjoys
TRs immensely). And you *don't* wanna go there.
And unit cost. Well, does that reflect only cash outlays? Or the full
works (boarding the unit, food, etc; I.E. the "in kind" payments; in which
case one might think Castle maint might be higher, too).
And as far as income, too: remember that's somewhat abstracted as well.
Any given landed realm supports various bureocrats, servants, etc, the
support of whom is "abstracted" out of the tax income you recieve (I.E.
what comes into your treasury each turn doesn't reflect the *full* ammount
of actual taxes paid to your government. . .such as it is. . .each turn,
but just the "excess", I.E. the ammount the Regent gets to play with; a
fair chunk of the pie, but not the entire pie.)

The current costs for a fortified castle (on plains) are 8 GB per level,
therefore a level 5 castle costs 40 GB (or 80,000 gp). Under the build
action, it states that building in difficult terrains con double or even
triple these costs (ie., A castle 5 in swampy terrain might cost 80 GB (
    160,000gp ).

The castle guide describes a small castle (maybe a L3 or L4, not realy sure
    ?). This castle has 8 small square stone towers, 70 (10'long x 10'thick x
15'high) stone wall sections with glacis, 214 standard stone wall sections
(same dimensions as previous), and 384 wooden wall sections (used as floors
and ceilings). This is worked out to cost a staggering 838,650 gold pieces
and take a total of 51,322 man/weeks to build. This castle does have an
additional modifier as it is being built in a swamp however.

Quite a difference HUH ? From this, a factor of 5 can be worked out
(averaging), so I suppose from now on we could just charge 40 GB per level
for a fortifed castle. OUCH !

    What ya think ?

Sweet water and light laughter until next.

Well; ok. Then we need to restructure the income to reflect actual
taxation. I.E. upwards of 150,000 GB/year in taxation income in an area the
size of Anuire (and this is RL income; not inflated fantasy income), and
    the cost of everything, etc.

Again, as I say: you can do that, but you'll be re-writting the game, and
ending up with a very different one.
