I like the Book of Magecraft, the Book of Priestcraft, each of the continent
supplements, especially at first, Rjurik Highlands and Cities of the Sun
(this is good for navies too). Blood Enemies is a good book with additional
bloodpowers in it too. A couple of the domain books give a feel for the
setting, but are not essential. I've gone and purchased almost everything
for the setting, and like King of the GiantDowns because it gives lots of
opportunities for adventure, not just an A to B module. Legends of the Hero
Kings is good too, because it shows how to turn a random event into an
adventure. It also has game related material towards the end in a section
called something like Getting the Kings to come off of their Ivory Thrones..
Actually just about anything you get for the setting is a good investment;
it is all well written and thought through, although these are what I'd
start with if I did not have anything. Of course if you want to set the
game in Brechtur then the Havens of the Great Bay will be of more help...
