    novel announcement

    Greetings, all:

I hope you will forgive me for going a little off topic here. But seeing as
TSR (unfortunately) has no Birthright fiction scheduled this year, I thought
you might be interested to hear that my first novel, a Ravenloft book, is
    coming out this month.

The novel tells the story of Alexi Shadowborn, a young would-be paladin who
travels to Ravenloft in hopes of removing a curse that taints his spirit and
blights his future. My co-author is William W. Connors, whom any RL players
out there will recognize from his many game products. I've listed the
publication information at the end of this post.

Again, I'm sorry to tread away from BR for a minute here (and I pray that my
announcement doesn't elicit a stern moderator post ;-) But I hoped you might
indulge the excitement of a first-time novelist whose "baby" is just reaching
    bookstore shelves.

    Thanks,
    Carrie Bebris

    Title: SHADOWBORN
    Line: Ravenloft
Authors: William W. Connors and Carrie A. Bebris
    ISBN: 0-7869-0766-5
    Release date: March 1998

We now return to our regularly scheduled Birthright discussions, already in
    progress....

Hey, don't be sorry! I'm sure that all (ok, most) of us will rush out and
get it (well, ok I can't "rush" to get anything, living in Bugtussle CO. as
I do. . .prolly be awhile till I can get it).

    And mega Congradulations!!!

And I hope not to elicit a stern moderator post by offering my congratulations on
getting your "baby" on the bookshelves. Bravo! Whoo-hoo! Standing O for CB!!!

Congratulations! As a frustrated writer who often dreams of seeing
publication myself, I celebrate your success! I hope it does well, and I look
    forward to reading it.
And since you raise the point, let me ask a question which will swing this
    thread back around to Birthright:

Does TSR have a lack of BR novels because they didn't want any, or because
there aren't enough good manuscripts being submitted? I have a few nifty
ideas floating around in my head which just MIGHT make an interesting BR
story, and I might even work up the nerve to query, if I thought there was any
interest there on the part of the publishers. So what do you think? What's
the insider's perspective? There may be others on this list who might be
interested potential authors as well. We await your words of wisdom!

Again, congrats on the first novel!

    Thanks in advance,

    Kevin M.

Thanks for all the good wishes regarding *Shadowborn.* And for those of you
who admitted to being aspiring writers yourselves, I hope you'll let me know
when your big break comes so I can support you with equal enthusiasm :)

On the one hand, exciting (knowing it was the next step in getting the novel
published), but on the other hand: Excruciating! Our editor was pretty easy-
going, but it's still a strange feeling to be on the other end of that red pen
    ;)
