Definately. But if you have that much money to throw around on a
PARTY why not conquer all of Cerilia instead?

    Greetings fellow list-members,

I was wondering how much money you would spend on a festival if you
would like to have the largest in Cerilia (or something in that class).
    Would 100GB be enought?

    Greetings,
I think your question would certainly depend on the individual campaign. In
mine, 100GB would be enough to buy a small country (Endier comes to mind). I
did a quick calculation (which may be flawed) and found that Avanil, one of the
most economically powerful realms in Cerilia, would collect an average of 130GB
per year with moderate taxes. A festival that cost 3/4 of Avanil's annual tax
revenues would not happen in my campaign, but it might seem reasonable in one
where trade routes abound. The Imperial City itself would only bring in 11GB
per season with normal taxation. This, to me, makes a festival that costs 10GB
    seem quite grand.

On the other hand, the Player's Handbook shows that a banquet costs 10 gold pcs.
per person. That means 10GB could only provide a banquet for 2000. At this
rate 100GB would only provide a banquet for 20,000 - that's a lot of people, but
not unreasonable. Of course, the PH also says you can buy an entire cow for 10
gold pieces, or 500 chickens, or 200 gallons of beer. I can hear it now,
"Wonderful banquet, Baron. Please pass me another 10 chicken quarters and a
couple of steaks. And while you're up, how about another 20 gallons of beer?"

    Regards
    Craig

A banquet isn't just ordinary food - it's pickled larks tongues in
aspic, jellied caribou eyes, stuffed dormice, honey-glazed hogsheads,
    and Chicken Korma & Chips.

Basically I'd suggest a banquet should be pretty special - it's real
decadent luxury type food, rather than a normal feast.

Plus rooms for both guests and their servants, entertainment such
as bard, singers, and actors. Probably invitations too...

IIRC Queen Elizabeth I used to guest with selected nobles in
England so as to drain them of funds...

It all depends on what you want to organise and what expense you actually
count as being connected to the festival.
Here is an overview of a festival (wedding) I recently organized in Ian's game:

Festivities connected to the Burrows wedding of Jollid Innkeeper to
    Hollisande Burnlaffen.

A detailed program of the festivitiest connected with this wedding on turn
    20.3 is now available.

Firstly: 50% of the normal taxes levied in the provinces where either guild
has substantional holdings will be paid by the guilds.
    (Burrows: Ambles-on-Hillsfair, Coarsewell, Fellrock, Greenlock, Westwold;
Rheulgard: Beuraben, Endlun, Eolrab, Nochlauch, Uptlund, Wahlrud, Wiestod,
Zedforst, Wohlers; Muden: Cohrtab, Golbrag; Sphinx: Seif-el-Avarra)
    COST 31,5GB

Secondly: In all the abovementioned provinces and in the provinces reached
by traderoutes of either guild there will be a lottery. (Muden:Wesbralen,
    Hauptrehr; Coullabhie: Treuchlyn, Wyndil; Rheulgard: Unbrau, Podenstahl;
    Rohrmarch: Nunkappel; Sendoure: Ghoudaia; Baruk Azhik: Land's Victory;
    Aerenwe: Calrie; Rjuvik: Yvarre; )
Tickets for this lottery will be handed out for free with any purchase at
    one of the guilds.
The first prize in every province will be 1.000 gold pieces.
The other prizes are: second prize is 500 gold pieces, 8 third prizes of 50
gold pieces, and 10 fourth prizes of 10 goldpieces each .
    COST 28GB

A Festival in Ambles-on-Hillsfair surrounding the wedding. This festival
    will include the following events:
A produce fair with prizes for the best homebrew, pie, cow, vegetable,
    cheese (600gp 1st prize, 300gp 2nd prize, 150gp 3rd prize)
Combined with the produce fair are eating, drinking and dancing contests
    (same prizes)
For the more atletic or educated people there will also be contest in:
    fencing, archery, and tracking
    debating, riddling, and storytelling.
    (prizes 1500gp 1st prize, 700gp 2nd prize, 300gp 3rd prize)
    TOTAL Prize money 11,7 GB

Furthermore there will be continuous entertainment during the entire
festival. highlight of this entertainment will be a demonstration by the Red
Arrows group of Mudenmagicians who will dazzle everybody with their magical
    illusons.
    COST OF ENTERTAINMENT 13.8 GB

In addition we will donate 5GB to the church of Land's Protectorate.
    DONATION 5GB
    ************************************************** **************************
    *****************
    COST
    Taxes: 31,5
    Lottery: 28
    Contests: 11,7
    Entertainment: 13,8
    Church: 5

    TOTAL COST 90GB

As you can see entertainment and food only came in for 14goldbars, it are
the extra's which make it expensive, but then you got to do something to
keep your treasury at a reasonable level as a succesful guilder.

You mean he didn't have to conquer all of Cerilia to have that much
    spare money?
