Just browsing over the blood enemies book, the Sphinx has no
exp. value....Am I blind or does someone know what it is?

not blind, it's not listed, i think 10,000-15,000 is a good estimate. isn't
there a table in DMG to help figure it up?

    Arrgh! Missed one!

In case anyone was ever curious about how a "special thanks" credit is earned
in a product, in my case it meant that my first week on the job I was handed
the Blood Enemies manuscript and asked to figure out XP for a stack of
monsters more powerful than any I'd ever encountered before. Imagine my
chagrin to discover now, years later, that I overlooked the poor Sphinx :(

Here's the method I used (this way you can compute XP not only for the Sphinx,
but any new awnsheghlien you might create yourself):
Use the "Creature Experience Point Value" table in the DMG. Blood abilites
listed in the table (such as regeneration) count as whatever hit die modifier
is listed. Any blood ability not listed in the table counts as either a
"special defense form, unlisted" or a "special nonmagical attack form,
    unlisted."

I think I missed the formula. Might someone post it again?

Well, if the players kill him/ it, then they deserve the Xp.

I mean if he's causing the PCs problems, violence is an eminently
acceptable solution to the problem. (Not that I necessarily endorse
violence as a solution to real world problems yadda yadda yadda...)

Yeah, we're kicking this old skool, man.

Actually my players sit around like lumps and don't do anything. I'm
starting to wonder if anything is wrong...

Back Foul Fiend! I Abjure Thee!

(A 12 on my Turn Gurps player roll. Does that succeed? :)

Yeah, you're right. For the record, I think seeking out the bad guy and
slaugthering him is an excellent solution to your troubles in all sorts of
fantasy campaigns. I count on my players choosing to do so! :-)

But in the last few years of GM'ing AD&D, I changed the XP system to
    something more (IMO) useful.

Well...we're turned as Special! Diehard AD&D'ers are turned as
    Zombies....

You get 1000 xps after your (much wiser) companions flee with your corpse
    andmanage to get you raised.

    LOL! Great answer :)

Maybe I should use it for some of the Shadow World creatures in Blood Spawn?

Once my players reach 5-6th level, I'm going to start encouraging them
to pick on the Basilisk :)

I'm thinking of adopting a system where players pick a list of character
goals, and they get experience for completing/ working towards them.
They'd also get xp for campaign contributions, roleplaying, learning
experiences (one of the nice things in Storyteller's exp system).

The difficulty is in administering the list of goals - players tend to
have quite a bit of difficulty picing goals that are achievable and
    interesting.

Surely, Turning being an AD&D mechanic, Gurps players can't use it....
    :)
