I'm pretty sure that if you did this the regent would have no qualms
about funding some other wizard who would oust you. I think that the best
thing would be to place some sort of enchantment on him, charm perhaps, and
show him why he's wrong. (or you could turn him into a tree and call over
some lumberjacks, show him how it feels to degrade the forsets)

I agree partly, but I don't think this _can_ happen to Birthright. A
king is a king, even if he's only first level, and will have immense power
compared to even a high level, nonroyal figure. Even if there were to be an
immense number of powerful true wizards, unlikely as that may be, the
situation would not be stable and wouldn't last long. All regular spells
(except wish) pale in comparison to, say, subversion, a first level realm
spell, requiring a level 1 source! So true power for the magically inclined
is measured in realm spells. But these are really a finite resource, you
need sources to cast them. So if there ever were a large number of powerful
mages, they'd all be real busy infighting for the sources of the world. And
a first level king can still get an army and raze some sources to bring
    those darn wizards in line.
This kind of brings me to my point. As the level of civilization
increases, as it will in many BR campaigns by at least the fourth or fifth
turn, the sources are going to decline. I can't see the wizards rolling
over and taking this. So what will happen when it occurs?

You use the Realm Spell Summon & have the troops raised pillage
provinces into the ground. The extra income comes in handy too.

Yep, doing that is bound to upset him a lot less than pilliaging. . . . . .

Of course by this point, you've got enough money to really screw him
over, and unless the incoming wizard already has sources, he's going to
find the whole thing even more difficult than you are.

As for charm, well, I don't want to give away any of my favourite
    tactics, but....

Charm, followed by Forget - they'll still like you but won't remember
that you took over their mind, even when the spell wears off.
