VOTING (city coordinator)
All right, everyone, it's time to elect a coordinator for the Online City. We
have three candidates who have generously volunteered their time and
organization skills to help turn this project from a great idea into a great
resource for us all. Thank you to Bryan, Jim, and Simon for throwing their
hats into the ring. Their statements follow, but first the voting guidelines:
Send your votes to me at with the subject line "Coordinator
vote" by February 9. As this is an international list, let's say that all
votes must be in my mailbox by 11:59 p.m. Greenwich Mean Time (6:59 p.m. EST,
for those of us in the U.S.)
And now, some words from your candidates....
Bryan Palmer:
"I'd like to be either on the steering committee or function as a
coordinator for the following reasons:
1. I have been using the Birthright campaign since it was first
introduced
2. I do program coordination and development for a living
3. I have the time available to work on such a project"
*****
James Ruhland:
"Why I should be Autocrat. . .er, "Overall Coordinator":
1) because it was me (I? royal/Imperial "We"?) who wrote this:
>
2) because no one will be able to shut me up on just about any topic,
anyhow, so you might as well give me a fancy title and send me away to
mutter to myself while others do the real work.
3) I'm proving with this application that I *can*, push comes to shove, be
brief. . ."

Simon Graindorge:
"Hi everyone,
My name is Simon Graindorge and I am applying for the position of Overall
Coordinator for the Birthright Online City Project. Firstly, a little
background. I am 23 years old, and currently studying for a PhD in mechanical
engineering at the University of Western Australia, in Perth, Australia. I
have been roleplaying for about 10 years, either playing or GMing almost every
system available.
I believe the best information I can give is to outline what I see as the role
of the Overall Coordinator. I envisage the position to basically be one of
organisation, an 'official voice' who, to quote Carrie, "has the authority to
say send the votes to XXX". In addition, the Overall Coordinator should be a
point of contact for the project to the 'outside world'. This includes
bringing new members into the project and keeping the list (and the group)
informed of progress. I must emphasise that I do NOT see the role as one of
guidance - this must come from the group and their ideas (through the Steering
Committee). Nor do I see the role as that of a dictator, or of creating rules
and/or design guidelines.
Thanks for taking the time to read this. Best regards,
Simon Graindorge
E-mail: slg@nw.com.au (home) or simong@mech.uwa.edu.au (university)"
