    Questions about realm spells

    Hi folks,
I'm still relatively new to BR, so I'd appreciate some help with the following
    questions.
The rules state that a regent wizard character starts with 1d3 random realm
    spells. Okay here's my questions:

    1) What levels are these random realm spells? Can a character actually have
possession of spells above the level he is able to cast? Would he just have
them on his repetoire waiting for the time when he was able to use them? (Or
are they treated like regular spells in this regard?)

    2) Do realm spells count against the maximum number of spells per level that a
mage is allowed to learn? Are they something that would be kept in a regent
mage's spellbook, or would he have a separate spellbook? (There's no
reference to this, so I have no idea how to handle this.)

    On another note:

    3) In the character creation section of the BR Rulebook it mentions that
regent characters start with a certain number of bodyguards. In the case of a
    multi-class regent Fighter/Mage (elf), or Fighter/Priest (half-elf), which set
does he get? Or does he get both? (I kinda doubt that part, but who knows?)

    Thanks for you help!

I would say they don't count against the number he can know, and yes,
they can be above the level he can cast, though if they all were, I'd let
him reroll till he got one he could cast.
They should not be in his spell book. These things take a month to
cast, each should take up a whole book if not more than one.

Sure. As is most often the case in Cerilia, spellbooks are left as
legacies to heirs (sons/daughters or apprentaces) upon the death of the
wizard. It is no doubt quite common for a young wizard to inherit her
father's/master's spellbooks (along with the rest of his Regency and
Domain) before she is capable of fully utilizing them.

I have been saying No to this question. IMO Realm spells are simply too
"big" to be kept within the brain of the the caster, and must therefore be
cast directly from a book (even though most of the time is spent
"gathering the energy" rather than actually casting, I still think the
casting must be a pretty impressive process). Therefore I would say that
they would fall into a separate spellbook. Actually, I think each Realm
Spell would probably be its own Spell Book, with complete instructions for
preparations, proper rituals and meditations to attune the wizard to the
right harmonic energies, proper variations for casting in different
terrain types, times of the year, using slightly different components,
making sure the astrological conjuctions are accounted for, etc., etc. And
then the last chapter is the actual spell ritual to be done at the end of
    the month.

    Pick one.

I would say that the wizard should be able to use at least one of the 1d3 realm
spells he starts with. If you've got the Book of Magecraft, there are a total of
four realm spells that can be cast by a first level caster. I would the other
realm spells he starts with castable by a second level caster (of which there are
six, including the ones from BoM), so that the PC could cast all of his starting
realm spells by the time be was 2nd level. The other thing you would need to watch
is that the PC has high enough level sources to cast the realm spells you've given
him (or make it reasonably easy for him to gain the needed sources).

I would say they would definetly not count against normal spells/level. And I also
    suggest a seperate spellbook.

I would probably let the player chose which bodyguards he wanted (but definetly
    not both)
