Just because the 5th level Mage(not wizard) can memorize a fireball
spell doesn't mean that he can channel the mebhaigl required to actually
cast it. You've just inspired me though:

It is possible for magicians to memorize and even cast spells that
they would not normally be allowed to. It would just be very stupid for
them to try it. After they have finished casting a spell that they shouldn't
cast the magician rolls a con check with a -(5+level of spell cast). Failure
indicates that the magician's spell fails _and_ that he takes 2d8 dmg per
level of the failed spell (he also learns not to try it again).

This could be used to explain how there could be mages (unreliable
ones, but still...) before the Deismaar incident.

Lucky Mage, just happens to find a spellbook in the extra dimensional
space with all the spells he wants to learn.

I wonder if this would work in the Forgotten Realms (ROTFL).

    The extradimentional space is:
    1) Temporary. As such it has no laws of magic unique to it and thus must
confirm to the laws of magic of its point of origin.
    2) Was made with Cerilian magic and thus conforms to the laws of Cerilian
    magic.
    3) Was cast by a magician, which is meerly a specialist with a rather large
    number of barred schools.

    Hope those help.

A big monster is waiting for the magician when he climbs down out of the
extradimensional space and it eats him before he can cast the fireball.

The Book of Magecraft lists spells from the Player's Handbook which are
allowed in Cerilia, and Rope Trick is NOT one of them. Problem solved. I
quite like your solution #2 however. (evil grin)

Real solution: he can "learn" the spell, but once he returns to Aerbynnis
space, he can't ever cast it because he lacks the proper connection to the
arcane that being blooded provides (or perhaps he can try to cast it, and
something nasty happens, which is prolly why magicians don't attempt this
little "trick"). IMO, best scenario for the magician: Wild Surge every time
he trys to cast a spell not normally available to Magicians. I'm sure a. .

Shadow world. I treat almost any extradimensional spell in BR as opening to,
or bordering on, the Shadow world.

    4) The extradimensionnal space acessed from Aebrynis is still bound by
the same laws of magic as the rest of the world, being created as a
    product of thosee magical energies.

    4) The extradimensional space is actually the gut of Great Cthulhu. End of
    problem.

But seriously....how is the mage going to find the spells he wants to study
inside an extradimensional space? And wouldn't he have to know about the
spells first in order to study them?!
