I have always liked Rich Baker's idea of a force of Anti-Creation. A dark
malevolent force that exists only to bring about the utter destruction of
all existence. A force that Azrai himself had tapped in order to gain the
level of power he had obtained (enough that it took the combined power of
all the other gods to stop him). The force that may have well caused the
destruction of the Mastians(sp?). This dark force always seeks to further
destruction and remove the works of Creation (the world, gods, and all
things in-between), but unlike Creation it will actively work to bring
about its goals. While for all intents Creation has done its job and is now
in retirement. Leaving the caretaking of life in the hands of its celestial
janitors, the gods.

This reminds me a lot of the "UNmaker" of Orson S Card's books (pretty
good if you haven't read them yet..a takeoff of the US inteh 1700's) In
a nut shell, the Unmaker's onnly goal is to destroy. That means
everything, and will continue to do so until all is gone or time itself
ends. The "force" preferred is to coerce weak minded people into
believing what they are doing is for good, when essentially they work
towards the UNmaker's goals. Water is the preferred medium, as it is
viewed as the only force not involved in the building up of things (there
is a much better explanating on the books, and I don't have them at hand
so you are stuck with my poor attempt :) ) Anyhow, these seem to be a
good reference if you would like to go along these lines...
