I would say that dragons predated history. Treat the timeline as a
known history. Dragons aren't out telling anyone else how old they
really are, so just assume they come from well before -1600 HC.

Dragons of Cerilia are so old that their origins have, so far, been lost in
the depths of time. It is theorized that, before the Battle of Mount
Deismaar, there were more dragons, and dragons fought on both sides of the
conflict (see the "Fire in the Five Peaks" article), but, even then,
dragons were on the decline in Cerilia.

Some say that over the Sea of Dragons wait more dragons to be discovered.
But others believe the Sea of Dragons got its name because of the Cerilian
dragons the Basarji encountered on the way to Cerilia. No one knows for sure.

Whatever the case, dragons predate humans and probably even elves on
Cerilia. KING OF THE GIANTDOWNS has a mention of them alive when giants and
    titans supposedly ruled Cerilia.
