    Trade Routes

I have a question. Can the ruler of a realm correctly identify the trade
routes going to and from his realm as well as the person controling
    those routes?

Unless the controlling regent takes special measures (I.E. a smuggling
operation), he can (caravan's and ships transporting goods back and forth
are not a secret). But, again, if the controler of the TR takes precautions
to smuggle goods through, then it is up to the DM as to how & if the ruler
    can uncover this operation.

I would think so. Any trade routes with the realm, or any holding inside
the realms provinces should be known about by its ruler. It is just
something that a King is likely to know about in his own realm.

    hello, Adam Theo here,
interesting question. i would solve this by having the regent ignorant
of it all until he goes to activly find out. i would do it through
role=playing, but as a DA, how's a free action called "investigate"?
cost 1RP, 1GB. sucess is 10+, modified by the level of law, guild, or
temple (not source) he has in the province (or in the capital of the
nation if he is doing it as a realm action). also modified by 3 to 8 if
the other person activly tried to do the whatever in as much
    discreteness as was allowed.
    how's this?

Don't your guilders periodically cry out in the Markets: "Come one, come
all, come see and buy the best produce and supplies from exotic and far
off Khinasi-land. Special today, just off the boat from the magical city
of Ariya we have carpets of exquisite softness and with colors so bright
that they could only have come from that Sun-touched land. See them now,
before they are all snatched up by your neighbors!" etc, etc.
I would say that unless the guilder involved does some extra-fancy
footwork (involving Intrigue, Espionage actions, and/or a Lot of Bribes to
buy the silence of many people) the regent probably AUTOMATICALLY knows
the origin of any trade routes to and from his realm. Heck, he probably
pays to send messages and messengers along with your traders on occasion
as a part of "routine communication."

You might also consider limiting the GB producing power of TRs over the
course of the year. For example, in winter trade isn't as brisk. Sea trade
routes may be disabled completely in winter (especially in northern areas
like Rjurik and Brechtur where the seas freeze).

This is a good idea, and can really work logically. I run a campaign in and
around Muden where trade routes and Exploratory trade is gaining more and more
popularity. However, when I set up the NPC guilds, I set them up (esp.
Theofold's Silver Fleet :) such that sea trade, and trade over the mountains
shurt down over the winter months. Of course natural disasters or ongoing
effects (an El Nino?) can also shut down trade routes and otherwise affect
    profits.

Oh, another way to control trade routes is to limit the amount not only by
province level, but also by guild level. Thus, a guild (7) in a province (7)
would be able to create 3 trade routes. However, a guild (3) in a province
    (7) would be able to create only 1 trade route. This also prevents people
from plonking down a zero-level guild and getting instant trade routes from
it. Obviously, a guild with no employees wouldn't be able to support any
    routes.

Yes, this is very true. For instance, in Vosgaard, there are at least 2
guilders that have tried to make trade routes and failed due to the
weather only! Now when the weather itself prevents you from setting up a
trade route, then I imagine that the route is going to have some problems
    in the severe weather seasons.

Actually, those disasters could make you loose money ( I'm sorry, the road
is ruined, could you pay 2 GB in order to repair it?).

    Just a thought
