If i go with birthright for my new campaign can anyone tell me what
resources I will need to buy for characters who initially will not be using
    the controlling kingdom rules?

    Paul,

You'll need the original campaign setting to explain the world of
Birthright. If you want to just play in the South, Anuire Kingdom area,
that is fine. Maybe add a Realm Book to get some information on the land
the characters are in. If you want to keep going, like maybe to Rjurik then
get that setting to explain the area up in Northren Cerilia. All in all
buy. A good way to get background info is have your playes buy the books
for the lands they are from, or if they are Wizards/Priests they can get
those books. That way you get to read the book, but save alittle money. ;-)

All articles that coruscate with resplendence are not by necessity auriferous,
    Bryon

If you want to play in Anuire, you need only get the Birthright Boxed
Set. The things you will be getting out of it are the History of
Anuire, the History and Current Status of Anuire, and specifically
whichever Realm you decide to play in, Blood Abilities(your players can
have Blood Abilities without being Regents), Racial and Class
    information, Weapons Information.

Ok, what have I left off of the list.

If possible get one of the Domain Sourcebooks for the Domain you want to
set your campaign in. The Sourcebooks give loads of great info, as well
    as campaign ideas.

If you wanted to play in one of the other regions(ie. Brechtur,
Khinasi, Rjurik, then get the appropriate boxed set.)

But to answer your question, justthe boxed set is all you will need.

    Hope this helps,

    Tripp

The boxed set, which describes the setting, of course, and then if you want
to operate outside of Anuire you should pick up the accessory that
describes that region. You probably won't need any of the Players Guides to
[wherever], but Blood Enemies would be good, and the adventures (the latter
two things--Blood Enemies and adventures, you don't *need*, but will
probably find useful for getting your mind right.)

Do you mean the "Gwaine [spelling=poor] and the Green Knight" tale? Where
the G.K. offers to let dude chop his head off, and if the G.K. survives
(which he does), he gets to cut off G.s head next year?

Just the boxed set should do it.
