    Suitable World

I am looking for a world in which to run a new d&d campaign for players who
have never played before + a couple of experienced players. Is the
birthright world suitable if i don't intend to run the rules for running
    kingdomes etc?

    Paul,

Birthright can be played without the players as regent. It has a
very well set up history and background info for the setting. Let your
players start as just the regular Joe, with maybe a weak bloodine. They
will most likly want to start seeing what it is like running a kingdom and
want one of their own. Or, decide it is to much of a hassle and continue to
    adventure.
The Role Playing in BR is outstanding. I have been roleplaying
forever, I even owned my own store, yet I always come home to AD&D, with BR
    being my favorite setting.

You bet it is. It's a well fleshed out world which will allow you to
play your game under the standard AD&D rules, or to use the Blood Lines
and have your characters be something more than standard AD&D ones.

    I strongly recommend it.

If you've got some specific questions, go ahead and post them.

Absolutely. The Birthright world is excellent for any type of campaign. It
    has ruins galore (from the ancient elves who used to dominate the continent);
    lots of powerful, unique enemies (known as abominations, or "Awnsheghlien");
powerful temples and mercantile guilds that try to further their own causes
while limiting what their rivals are able to accomplish; and connections with a
mysterious, forbidding plane of darkness and despair (the Shadoworld).

Wizards able to cast true magic are rare, feared, and powerful. The elves and
dwarves of the land are not the "funny looking humans" from more generic
campaign worlds - they have very different cultures and are rare in the lands
of humans (making them, IMHO, more fun to role play). There are 5 distinct
races of humans, each with their own cultures and strengths. Also, PCs can be
the descendants of the ancient warriors of the cataclysmic battle of Mt.
Deissmar. They can have "bloodlines" that give them interesting powers derived
from the old gods who were destroyed at this great battle.

Finally, there is always the possibility of branching out into ruler ship later
in your campaign, if you (as DM) decide to. PCs don't have to be the king of
an entire kingdom, they can be wizards who command powerful magic sources (and
cast cool Realm spells), thieves who control thieves' guilds or trading guilds,
priests who are the leaders of temples, or warriors who control knightly orders
or fight against an evil ruler.

I'm extremely happy that I got into the Birthright world. My players and I
just started our first campaign in this setting, and we are loving it. I hope
    you join our ranks.

    Regards
    Craig
