    ======== Original Message ========
    Hello everybody.

I was just thinking about tighmaevril in the published material of
TSR. In the rulebook, it says only 'a dozen or so' weapons were ever
forged from this steel, an nobody has relearned the technique. Well,
looking through the products out now, I wondered how many of that
dozen were known and allocated. Let's see...

    - - Heart Reaver, a spear +5 Held by Shaemes Lavalier (RoE pg 74)
    - - Blood Hunger, a dagger +3 Held by Orlis (Legends ot HK pg 7)
    - - Kinharrower, a broad sword +1 Buried with Hrothwulf (Legends ot HK pg 94)
    - - Orogsbane, a Battle Axe +3 Held by Grimm Graybeard (RoE pg 77)
(functions only as tighmaevril vs orogs)
    - - The Gorgon has at least 2 and maybe 4 (RoE)

    Anybody know any more?

In the Talinie Player's Secrets it says something about a farmer finding a
set of 300 small needles on a string that are made of tighmaevril; no one is
sure how to use them as weapons, but there is another one for your list.

The only other one that comes to me right off the top of my head is the Sword of Roele,( in the adventure by the same name) but it is broken and I am not sure that a tighmaevril sword can be fixed, because no one can work the metal any longer.

This is a discussion we've had on several occasions around the office and
it hasn't really been resolved to date. I'll give you my take on the
situation, since I'm the only one currently here ;-0

I prefer to interpret the "only a dozen or so weapons" means that's the
number that are KNOWN to have been created. I also like to think that,
perhaps, there are other smiths who've figured out the process, but who
haven't made their knowledge public (and have taken the secrets to their
graves, if they aren't still alive). They may have contributed a few more
weapons. Finally, it's also possible that some smiths have figured out PART
of the formula and created "lesser" tighmaevril weapons with much less
    effective bloodline-draining abilities.

Of course, all this diffuses the importance/rarity of the 12 weapons--some
of which you've listed above. I like to think that Heart Reaver and a few
of the Gorgon's blades are of the original 12 (doesn't Rhoubhe have one, or
am I misremembering) and that the others are from the "unknown 'til now"
variety. This is not an official ruling; I'm more interested in hearing
what you all have to say.

Manslayer probably has one, too. (BE p. 74).

Furthermore, Halskapa source mentions something a rumor about a
"supersmith" (named Djohin) able to forge tighmaevril... (Halskapa p.
    29).

I personally like the idea of only 12 known Tighmaevril weapons, but having the
possiblity that there are others not yet discovered. I don't like the idea of anyone
still having the knowledge to creat new ones. That would lessen the "rarity" appeal of
the originals. If there are others not yet discovered, that at least leaves the door
open to add a few here and there as the need occurs.

Where does it say that the Sword is tighmaevril? I have the adventure
right here and it says nothing along those lines. Also I think that the
dwarves might, possibly the great-great-great-grandson of the original
creator also, be able to fashion tighmaevril, but not very easily, or
    for free (hehehehe)

Wasn't that the adventure in the Rujick (sp) Highlands?

Just because it functions like Tighmaevril doesn't make it one. It
could be a weapon that was enchanted by a hired wizard...

Not yet, but working on a big adventure for characters. (Timaevril
    weapons, and everything else.)
