Without meaning to appear sycophantic in any way, I have always thought
that Ed Stark's BR material has been amongst the best, if not the
best. Legends of the Hero-Kings, and Havens of the Great Bay are 2 of
my favourites. But King of the Giantdowns - you have excelled yourself
    with this one.

I rate KOTG as one of the best BR products to come out for a while.
Maybe it's because Druids and the Rjurik are my favourites, but even if
they were not, you'd be hard pressed not to admit this is an excellent
product. The adventures in it are first rate, and the history and
details concerning the entire region is just what I needed. The
information on herbs and the denizens is very well written and full of
new ideas. One of my PCs is dying to try and make his name in this
    region.

Keep up the good work, Ed - including those BR Dragon magazine articles
you write from time to time.

    Regards,
    Cymbelline.

IMHO, its not a good idea to let PCs(or NPC)Regents to learn new Prof.
without the free slots. First off it makes it more believable if the Regent
has to first earn the slot then learn the Prof. Using a new Language as an
example, you could always say the character learned bits and pieces of the
new language before studying it seriously, and gaining the Prof. Secondly,
it makes a good point for Adventuring(or more "worldly")Regents. It shows
an advantage they have over those that just sit on their throne, and let
others do the hard work. IMO, the Training Action only accounts for finding
the best teachers; paying for them, and any tools they may need.

I got King of the Giantdowns. Haven't used it yet, as my players already
control a realm (Talinie) and as yet, I haven't entirely thougt up enough
motivations for them to travel to the area. My only real complaint so far
is that some of the pictures/maps looked a little... well, not lesser
quality, but different enough to the point that I didn't like them as
much. The other thing is that the Giantdowns don't seem as empty as I
imagined them. I'll probably give a little more insight as I delve more
into the book. So far, it looks like a good product.

I have a copy and intend on using it my campiagn sometime soon. Most of
my players are based in southern Anuire at the moment though, but one of
the non-regent players has expressed an interest in taking control of
part of the Giantdown so will have to see what happens.

I do allow the use of this action to gain a point in a proficiency AND also
to learn a new proficiency when the players don't have an open slot. To gain
a new proficiency they must spend TWO actions and they must be able to
justify it. For example, the party elf recently learned to speak the Anuirean
language. He justified it because he had been traveling with his Anuirean
buddies almost constantly for some time. When he returned home he spent two
months formalizing what he had picked up on the road on his many adventures.
Another player wanted to add Ancient History, but I wouldn't allow it because
I felt that was a subject he couldn't learn in 2 months. To me, being able to
justify the knowledge from what's been happening in the game is the important
point. But, hey, every game is different and in the end, it's whatever works
    for you and your group.

As a DM...I like the book...I have all of the supplements of Birthright
execpt for three Player's Source books...(Halsapa, Binsada, and Taline.
.) But I like almost all of the stuff...
