Naval Battle Rules WAS RE: - Ne
Although a bit off topic, the comparison of WS&IM to BR-NR is somewhat
valid isn't it ??

Its still in print, I believe, good old Avalon Hill, never wants to let go
of a good product, either that or they still have a huge pile of them left
from the 1976 bicentennial mega-blowout !

I fairly certain there were no 'flee the engagement' rules in WS&IM.
Ships took up two hexes (one for the bow, one for the stern) which made
turning a real pain in the butt...

Wooden Ships and Iron Men is still around? Man I havn't seen that game for
about 16 years! The Naval rules (which are exactly the same as found in
the Cities of the Sun boxed set---I know...bought them both in my excitement)
simply details the discriptions of the BR-settings vessals. It list the
Costs, and % value in GB's of ships sold and of course new war cards
detailing new naval battle magics.
The new war map listed is similar to the one in the orginal BR boxed set, but
has another collum of 'areas' to enage in. If I remember correctly about
"Wooden Ships and Iron Men" (been almost 2 decades) the war board was
hexagonal and the ship counters were small so that you could battle large
scale navies. Well the naval rules completment small engagements well. More
than say 8 ships on each side and then things get a little confusing do to
the lack of space on the naval war map. The naval rules also cover the topic
of ships fleeing the engagement. Does Wooden Ships & Iron Men do the
same..(scratching head...) Anyway this ability to flee combat is very
valuable...in a no one naval battle.
Hope I helped with something.
